Lights on key off.
« on: October 29, 2021, 07:11:12 AM »

2016 Zero SR, I've had it about a month.  Dealer went through before I brought it home. Ride it 4 days a week parked on Saturday 82% charge Locked the forks. Came out Tuesday and the taillight and headlight ( just the top center not the whole light) and the high beam indicator is on. Keys in my pocket I'm thinking what in the Twilight Zone stuff is this? Sat on it unlock forks and turned the key off and on a few times hit a few switches not sure what combo I did but lights are off when the key is off. Still 82% charge. But I turn the key on, the the switch on, put up the kickstand and the red light goes out ready to go. Turn the throttle and nothing after e few tries I think the red light flashes twice fast the once is this a code that is telling what's wrong? Any Ideas would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

I can't remember off hand what that shows but since you're new, here is the unofficial manual.  It has most all of the common issues and fixes.

Maybe someone else can help you quicker but it's a little slow here on the weekends.

Look for errors in the MBB logs, might help narrow it down. If the key-on switch were going bad the bike will timeout when not charging and no throttle input, so that doesn't sound like it. If the DC-DC is failing then all kinds of funny behavior can result. Or if the contactor is failing it could fail-n/c or fail-closed, and there should be some warnings about it in the logs.

After a bit more research it seems the two then one code is the contactor. Now to get it to the dealer.  Does any one know how much this will cost?

Yes and the kickstand is up. Looking into more I used the selector switch to get a two digit code it's 45 kickstand switch. So now I have red light flashing two then one contactor error and 45 kickstand switch.  I only have about a grand into it so far so I will spend a little more money when I save it.

Quick caution here.  If you are going to replace your kickstand switch, be very careful not to short the wires.
It will fry your main bike board MBB to the tune of about $800.

Solved. I charge at work because I live in an apartment and the bike is thirty feet from my balcony. I was told that my codes 45 on the selector switch and the red light flashing twice then once can be cleared by plugging it in for 10 minutes. I ran a fifty foot extension cord down to my bike and charged it for 15 minutes and it worked. I am happy and back on my Zero. Thank you for your suggestions.
