Did an SR/F demo ride at the Zero World Tour in Lakeland, FL
« on: October 18, 2021, 12:23:32 AM »

My wife and I took a trip on Friday from St. Petersburg, FL to Lakeland, FL  to the IMS Outdoors Show - https://motorcycleshows.com/ - at the Sun N Fun Aerospace Expo in Lakeland, FL - https://flysnf.org/ - on Friday.   I booked a reservation to ride a new Zero SR/F so I could compare it to the two Zeros I already own.  First there is the name confusion to me.   I would figure the /F would stand for fairing and the /S would be standard (without fairing).   It is of course the other way around.   Then there is the riding position.   I figured both would be the same.   But I was informed after my ride that the SR/S (with the fairing) has the lower footpegs and thus would probably have been a bit more comfortable for me.   I guess if I had a closer dealership that carried all the models I would have learned that already.

The SR/F is a nice bike.  Even ECO mode is pretty quick.   Considerably quicker than the ECO mode in my 2018 SR (which actually seems slower than ECO mode on my 2017 FXS).   The ride was lead and followed by two factory sponsored riders and was on a specific route around .   So we were limited on what we could do and limited to ECO mode.  I was in the first ride group of the day and there was only 1 other demo rider with me so at least it wasn't a big crowd like later rides seemed to be.

Overall, I'm not really in the market for a new electric bike as the two I have fill my needs just fine. But at least I had the opportunity to talk to some actual factory personnel and even related to one of them the story of the charger fuse issues I had with my FXS.  https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=11400.0
I also gave him a link to this forum as I told him that it was one of their dealership personnel that actually helped me track down the issue.  Maybe we will get some more factory support?

Unfortunately, Harley/Livewire didn't have any Livewire models on display or for test rides.  And I didn't take any other bikes on test rides.   It was just too hot to hang around all day doing test rides.

Thanks to Jarrett-Scott Ford for letting us charge at their charger.    Too bad they didn't have a Mach-E for us to look at.  Only new Broncos.

Boos to the Tesla Model 3 owner that hogged the only working charger (free of course) at the Greenwise Supermarket at our planned lunch stop.   They obviously weren't shopping there since we were there for over an hour and the car never moved.

We ended up getting the juice we needed for the ride home at a local recreation center at a cost of 28 cents and about 45 minutes of sitting in their air conditioned lobby.

We had about 20% charge when we got home.   The SR ran well.  But I need to figure out how to view the Garmin nav that came with the bike in the bright FL sunlight.  The screen is virtually washed out by bright reflections when wearing light/bright colored clothing.

EDIT:  Removed the tags from the images as they seemed to be huge.

F is Fighter, naked, and S is Street.  Except when the S means Sport, so who knows with Zero? ^-^;

Who knows why they decided to call an entire line the same thing as a single model not in the line at all?

Anyhow, seems like a great day on a bike!

Especially when they already had an SR model and the new SR/* doesn't relate to the previous SR model in any way.

I heard that the company was started in one of the founder's mum's garage many years ago. He'd borrowed a few thousand pounds from his uncle Albert and spent most of it on letters to stick on the bike. Unforrtunately there was a lithium battery fire. Most of the garage and an early prototype were destroyed. From what little could be salvaged there was only the odd D, an occasional X and whole boxes of S, R and F. A box of Es was recently discovered during some renaovation work. They were mostly melted into one big lump of plastic but there were a few still usable.

Speaking of which, I could use a random bunch of letters for my other bike because no one ever knows what I am riding when they see my other bike.   Specifically a pair of each; X, S, Z, O, R, E and F.

Thanks.   Zero offered white body parts for the FX series.   But I think the thing makes white really stand out are the other parts that Zero never offered in white, the front fender, the rear fender and the fly-screen.   All these parts are now fully primed, painted and clear coated by a local body shop.  It looks better than the molded in color.

Decided to add the ZERO and FXS designations to my FXS.
