2022 S, DS, and DSR updates
« on: September 14, 2021, 07:20:07 PM »

Nothing too special, just the colour display and Cypher II from the FXE and FX and some new colours. Strange that they've left out the SR.

Me too.  If everything I need to know can be clearly expressed in B/W, why do I need color???  I've heard complaints the new display does not include a clock, too.

I noticed the SR was left off and was curious about that too. IMO it overlaps too much with the SR/F / SR/S lineup, I wouldn't be surprised if the give it the axe for 2022.

I've heard the same thing on the clock.. which is insane to me. After RPM and speed, the clock is the thing I glance at most on all of my motorcycles. I use it so often it would really affect my decision of buying a motorcycle. Its small, but its also something that is just standard on motorcycles anymore, I cant understand why they would choose to save money on that feature.

It won't have been a decision to do with money - it's like 3 lines of code to get it on to the display - but probably a considered user interface decision. Not sure what their reasoning might be though. I look at the clock quite often too.

This smells like the updated SR that Motorcycle.com had previously reported. Maybe SR gets a bigger revamp. And we may get the DSR/X too. Hopefully these will be more than just cosmetic updates.

The SR is in an odd position as I believe it's the least popular model of the lineup, having been sort of supplanted by the SR/F and SR/S. People are reporting Zero is not axing it, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they did.

I agree if its just code, but I read that the previous dash had a small internal battery to keep the real time clock alive, whereas the new one doesn't have an internal battery. Not sure how true that is, but it would make sense. Zero always orders off the shelf hardware, and maybe this display ticked all the requirements for them except for that? Again, just speculation.

Scuttlebut says that they originally had a battery and clock, but they discovered the battery was subpar and not easy to replace after ordering a large number, and ran out of time to get that fixed.

What an embuggerance... that'll have some minor but irritating implications for log date/time stamps.

Thankfully the dash time is only seen by the owner, the mbb and bms all have their own clocks which are totally separate :)

I found the clock on my LCD display to be a little too small for me to read while riding.  So what I did was to order a cheap 1.5 inch diameter round battery-powered analog clock from Amazon (the have lots of them in all different colors). I Velcroed the clock to the lower section of my right rear view mirror, the section that only shows your shoulder while riding. The clock battery will last about a year. To replace it I can pull the clock off of the Velcro and replace the battery (replacing the battery is not an easy task, BTW). While the clock is not claimed to be waterproof, it has been exposed to rain without any issues. It uses a really cheap button battery.

I certainly hope they do something cool. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I have the new display installed on my 2020 DSR.  I like it.  The lack of clock is a bummer, I just added it to my app instead.  It looks great, even in sun and is well laid out.  I'd love a reason to upgrade to the DSR/X, but if it isn't a bigger battery or more power, or something like that, I'll stay with my DSR.
