SR/F + SR/S glovecompartment - pictures please?
« on: May 30, 2021, 01:46:17 PM »

Please show me pictures of SR/F or SR/S frunk with and without the chargetank.

If chargetank means I can fit nothing in there it becomes a little less important to me  :)

Apparently pretty hard to google - or I don't know the right word for it?

I can't seem to find a picture with a charge tank or power tank installed, but I know I've seen one.  Here is one without.  I have an SR/F without and it's a really, really handy storage area.  It holds a surprising amount (so much so that I don't often need my top box for quick trips to the grocery).  I'd have a hard time giving up the space.

I have seen pictures before after a power tank install, and it's pretty tight (like room for gloves and a phone, and that's about it).

There's not much storage left after installation of the charge tank. What is left is about 34 mm high. I have a brake disk lock, a small first aid kit and a microfiber cloth in there and the only room left is for a mars-bar.

There is definitely no room for a charge cable (except for a phone charge cable  ;D )

The chargetank itself takes up all the room underneath the cover

Thank you very much for the pictures and info...

It's odd that Zero doesn't make a better install if it's ordered with extra 6kW from factory.
I understand that fitting it afterwards has to be within a box so that people don't have to tear the bike all apart but damn...

If it's a Premium with 6kW (no charge tank) is the glove compartment smaller than the 3 kW? Or maybe the factory fitted 3 and 6kW charger are same size.

Standard vs Premium make no difference to the size of that compartment. They are mounted below it, stacked one in front of the other.

Remmie posted a picture of his SR/F with a 6Kw “quick charger” unit. Which combined with the standard equipped 3KW allows up to 9Kw of AC charging (roughly 36A @220ACV). You can upgrade your charging by installing the same 3Kw charger that came equipped with the SR/F, and it is a little cheaper, and you do retain the same amount of glovebox space as it’s mounted directly behind your current charger.  I plan to have this done to my SR/F soon as I’m awaiting parts to arrive.  Going this route allows me to install a power pack down the road.

You might want to consider if 9Kw of charging is worth it. Not all level 2 charging stations can support 9Kw.

Has anyone upgraded a PREMIUM with a small 3kW and kept all or most of the glove compartment? That could be a pretty decent combination.

I think every single level 2 station in the street is 11kW. My homecharger is also 11 kW so 9kW is surely worth it.

Here in California a lot of the free charging stations max out at 6.6KW.  Anything near above that would most likely be a Tesla destination charger or a LV3 DC charge station.

This really explains why Zero has “only” 6kW as standard in the top premium model.

Nearly 100% of public L2 chargers in Denmark (most of Europe) is 11 kW. This is done with 3x230V AC (3x16A).
Same figures with the one we installed at home for the car last year.

Or these here.

"Two Eaton 70-amp Level 2 stations". Almost 17KW from a J-1772. But that is a few feet from CA, barely in NV.

here's a link to the installation manual of the chargetank for the SR/F SR/S for the north american market (with J1772 plug)

For european bikes the instsallation is a little different because the 230Vac harness for the rapid charger is already present and connected to the third phase of the Mennekes type 2 connector. The connector has a blind cap on it.

So IF the 230Vac connectors of the 3 kW charger and the 6 kwcharger are the same then that part would be easy (just clip it in)
The battery connection (DC side) would be more involved because i don't think the connector to the back of the battery and the connector to the charger are not separately available. You COULD try to tie it in with the existing cabling from the 2 chargers but adding 50% current to cabling that is desinged for 2x3KW DC does not sound very smart  ;D

And then you would have to shorten the "bucket" so it fits on top of the third 3kW charger.
I think it is doable but involved. :)

The connector that is present in the harness for the 230Vac to the additional charger is an Amphenol radsok A.

In this thread there is more info about it.

Well I really don't feel like cutting up the "bucket" if I went on and bought an SR/S...

And also... If I did this myself I am pretty sure I can say goodbye warranty!!  ;D
