Of course I'm not making any sense when you wrote something completely unrelated to what I wrote.

-Crissa
Then please explain how you can add adapters to that cheap J-1772 cable to safely add more chargers.

Appreciate the suggestion but I'm a little confused as to why SR/S pegs would be an improvement. Do they not mount in same spot? Are they angled differently? thx much for any info
What Crissa said. It effectively drops the pegs by about an inch. Doesn’t sound like much but it made a big difference for my comfort.

The adapter doesn't stop you from:

  • Using a different adapter
  • Changing the adapter's wiring

It's just a dumb adapter.  Just like your NEMA plugs don't stop you from having other NEMA plugs (as is the design)

And that is the problem. One thin wire on that cheap J-1772 adapter that is designed for no more than 15 amps. How do you safely add chargers when that one thin wire will see the ENTIRE load, OBC Plus all chargers, even with a billon other adapters. Have any idea how fast that will melt on my 8 KW worth of chargers?

The answer is use  one from TucsonEV that has three wires to use, and any of the three are thicker and can handle much more current that those that are designed only for the OBC, such as the junky one Zero sells. Perhaps good for around six  times the current total.

How do you change the one common wire on that cheap J-1772 adapter? It will have the entire load and there is no reasonable fix possible. It's a J-1772 to a single 15 amp wire. Add chargers with any adapters and you will be well over that 15 amps on that one thin wire from any J-1772 station.

Tucson EV makes those MUCH better cables for a very good reason.

How do you change the one common wire...
There's no 'Common' in a J1772.  There's Hot, Hot, Ground, and two signal wires.

I meant the common cable, not a common wire.  The entire load is on those wires in that thin adapter  cable, so no chargers can be added to it from a J-1772 without it overheating at 120 VAC. You can safely add one DeltaQ charger if you're using 240 VAC because of the way those chargers  drop the current at higher voltages (even if Ohm's law says the opposite should happen).

So you made up a situation whereby any potential upgrade had to use this cable for all of the load why?

Why would you spend more to carry around a heavier cable than you needed to with extra connectors dangling from it?  And why would this lighter cable stop you from buying a different one in the future or stripping out the parts if you were going to upgrade?

8 KWs is why.

Because I do need it for 8 KW. And they are not designed to be modified, It would be a lot easier to buy the correct cable to begin with.

How else am I going to run three chargers at once with a total of 8 KW?  The J-1772  cable that leaves the cheap J-1772 adapter will melt at 8 KW. It's designed for 15 amps, not 34 amps at 240 VAC as I use. The one from Tucson is good for 60 amps, 20 amps each lead, IIRC. And I use  all three leads,

So again, you imagine that this adapter stops you from buying a different $100 adapter when you spend another $4k on chargers why?

Why would I (or anybody)  want to buy something that will never be used?

Yes, Don, why would anyone buy a device they're not likely to use?

Because that's what you suggested they do.

Now I see why you're all confused. I said do NOT buy the cheap one from EVSEadpaters, but buy the much better one from Tucson EV which can do everything the cheap one can and much more.

Yes, that's what I said you said.  You said to buy the one that uses extra space, has features they won't be using, and costs more.
