SR/F SR/S Firmware v19 CCM issue?
« on: April 06, 2021, 02:16:38 PM »

Hi all,

I recently (2 months ago) updated the firmware on my SR/F to the latest v19.  The usual bike message appeared prompting the update after I finished a ride, so I chose to proceed with the over-the-air update.  That failed at 93%, the bike shut off and when I keyed off and on again I reattempted the update.  That also failed at the same point, this time I tried via the Zero mobile phone App, this worked fine.  As soon as it completed I noticed that the SOC and bike location remained at pre-update status.  Essentially the cloud status of my bike remained frozen.  I keyed off the bike and pulled Fuse 1 (5A) to the CCM unit, gave it 5 mins and replaced with a new 5A fuse.  Still no updated status, a number of weeks passed and the Zero App stated "last seen 3 weeks ago".

I took the bike to my dealer and they got in touch with Zero Europe (NL) and the conclusion was to replace the CCM unit.  Am I alone with regards issues like this after performing a firmware update? Or perhaps v19 in particular?  I am questioning whether to accept updates in future as I don't recall any new Firmware version from Zero landing without issue(s) - I also had the magic charging issue after I installed v18.

Interested to hear other opinions on this.

Cheers,
Paul.

Many users reported this problem after updating to version 18 and didn't get fixed on version 19.

Myself I went from 17 straight to 19 and since then on the dash I get cellular state "not connected". Before it would always show up as "connected" even indoor in garage for example.

Also the SOC value has been stuck on 64% from the time the update was performed, never got any updates on SOC since then. Nor on the charge state or remaining charge time parameters.

When I ride I do get the GPS points plotted, so that part still works for me.

I did get notifications before when bike was on transport but since version 19 I also don't get those updates anymore. Haven't tested the dropped warning.

There are "rumors" that changing the production state flag from PEND to REG in the motorcycle config fixes most of these issues (not all though). This has to be done remote by zero at your dealer. Currently checking with my dealer if they can have that done for me.

Hi Hans,
Zero NL told my dealer to replace the CCM, which is stuck in customs (joys of Brexit).
I was very dubious if it was a hardware issue after a software update.
I'll pass on your info to my dealer, I would have hoped Zero would have a Knowledge base article on this and bulletin to dealers on how to resolve... but then I don't know how common this is.

Thanks!
Paul.

My SRF hasn't updated SOC on the app (android and ipad) since v17, I've kind of given up on it.
It does show location though now and again when it's in a good mood

Mine also shows not connected. 2020 SR/S on V19. No remote functions working (none).

Asked dealer about this last week but no answer yet.

Zero seemed to have finally gotten their firmware and over-the-air updates working well on the "legacy" models like my 2018 S. It is been a number of years since I downloaded an update that caused a problem - although many of them really didn't seem to do anything noticeable to me other than to reset some of the bike's history in the Zero app.  Since Zero had it right in the past, I wonder why they felt the need to switch to their new firmware and updating system?  What does it do that their old system didn't do other than to drive the more complicated TFT display?  Have they turned the process over to an off-site consultant that just hasn't figured things out yet?   ???

Never mind that the code was made by whoever... how did it get past quality control? Who is testing this stuff?

Cas :)

Yeah who is testing that code in production, something I've wondered myself after installing most of their firmware updates.

Sometimes a fix is more important than some usability.  Or the network test passed when it shouldn't (or vice versa).

It's not so easy as just having QC.

Same issues after v18/19, losing SoC on cellular  and notifications in general.

Same issues after v18/19, losing SoC on cellular and notifications in general.

Same here after I went from V17 to V19.

In its "Preferences" section, for "Cellular" my bike does say "Connected" but under Android with the latest app (V2.2.4) when trying the "Remote Connect" I am always getting an "Unable to connect" answer.

The firmware upgrade did solve a nasty problem I had before, the app was stuck in "Storage Mode" so before I could no longer manage scheduled charging or charge target.

My dealer is informed and told me he would need to contact Zero NL, and then get back to me. That is two weeks today.

Indeed also was stuck in storage mode according to the app on version 17 so be warned; don't put it in storage mode unless you have version 18 or higher.

My Zero dealer just called. He spoke with Zero NL technical support and was told that I would need to come over with my SR/F so that he can tweak the firmware configuration (with their Diag4Zero application) to fix that connectivity problem.

So that's another 120 km ride (240 km & 3-4 hours in total) to do, just because of Zero simply saved too much on software quality control  ::). Well, at least he called me back :).
