BMW CE 04 electric scooter
« on: April 01, 2021, 03:38:47 AM »

It looks like BMW might be getting ready to introduce another electric motorcycle to their lineup soon. They are going with an auto-type flat battery pack located under the floor of the chassis. That bench seat looks a little odd to me  ???https://www.motorcycle.com/mini-features/design-filings-suggest-bmw-ce-04-electric-scooter-is-close-to-entering-production.html

I think this design is utterly fantastic, and probably the future of motorcycling.

It’s awesome, but not as much as this one.

Electric motorcycles and scooters should not look like ICE motorcycles and scooters.

It has arrived: Here is a link to an article regarding BMW's latest electric scooter, the CE 04. I wonder if that seat is as hard as it looks?   ::) The automatically-applied parking brake that functions when the side stand is deployed is a good idea. The large TFT instrument display screen is a nice touch. At 504 pounds, it certainly is no lightweight. And of course, being a BMW there will be extra-cost factory options, such as are on the "Premium" version that will set you back an additional $1,650 over the base price of $11,795 in the U.S.

Style aside, for about the same price of a Zero FXS 7.2 you're getting some really nice upgrades:
  • Color LCD display
  • 8.9kWh battery
  • 2.3kW charger (upgradable to 6.9kW)
  • Reverse drive
  • Helmet and phone storage with USB-C charging

I hope that bikes like this one pressure Zero to incorporate those features as standard to all their bikes without inflating their prices. Maybe the FXE will be the first to do that.

I wish BMW would build a real electric motorcycle.

Kinda like Triumph has been thinking about, with this, which looks MUCH more interesting to me than a scooter.

Here is a link to the official factory spin about their new scooter. Definitely not the prettiest vehicle I have ever seen. And what is up with that orange fly screen?: https://electricmotorcycles.news/the-new-bmw-ce-04-unveiled/

While the price might not be too bad for a BMW, being BMW you will have to wonder what it will cost by the time you push it out the door. As you likely know, the "launch" models are packed with every additional-cost feature that BMW can put on the bike.  ;)

Also, being a BMW electric probably means only a few BMW shops will carry it.

Their other electric scooter could not be purchased or serviced in the entire state of NV.

I find it too weird for me, not quite Johammer J1 weird, but not much is. Some of the details on the Johammer are IMHO very nice, but the look of the whole lets it down.
Some of the details on the CE C4 (like the explosive, let's hope that is not an omen) are nice, very nice. The price for a BMW branded "bike" is very good. I believe it's the first electric "bike" that I feel is expensive but not "LOL, do they think I'm an idiot" expensive. It seems a relatively good buy.

The online configurator indicates that the orange screen is an extra option, a bigger clear screen is also available. Prices for extras; that orange screen, 5 seat options, heated grips, heated seat, LED lights, TPMS, etc. are unknown. The configurator says "We will email you the price".
231 kg. 15" wheels. 50 minute 0-80% charge with optional fast charger (3.5 hours with standard charger). 148 V battery. 130 km range. 120 km max speed (electronically limited). 42 hp max. Water cooled permanent magnet synchronous motor.

If I could only find a nice leftover C Evolution at a dealer at a 50% off.  :)

On my ride to visit my daughter on my Zero today, I was traveling though Golden Gate Park and saw a BMW C-Evolution. That was the first one I have ever seen on the road. The rider yelled to me "nice bike. That is the first one I have ever seen".  :o

Long Way Home has a few funny words to say about BMW's new CE 04 electric scooter, including that they will no longer be building gas-powered scooters from now on:

This scooter is ace. I love the styling, and it's got all the right stats for what it's designed to do. I'd buy one if I didn't already have a bike. Hm, wonder how much it weighs...

Somewhere in the 220-231kg range depending on which report you believe. The CE stands for 'Chunky Electric'.
