SRS firmware update 18
« on: October 07, 2020, 10:16:05 PM »

Hi all,

I'm an SRS french owner since last july. Did you guys have updated your bike with the new 18 version released 2 weeks ago ?
I don't know if it's related, but now I'm getting error code 37 at every charge (CAN communication error), it doesn't seem to induce any problem, I just clear them. Actually, we had also a lot of heavy rainy days at the same time.

I'm currently in the usual SR/F song and dance about getting it to take the new firmware, but there seems to be rumblings on Facebook about it causing issues with the app etc, so i'm in no hurry.

I was hoping by now they'd make this process more durable but alas, not yet. I still have to run my mobile in 24 hour clocks to get around a bug in the zero schedule charging screen, and that was there right at the begining of the Zero next gen application, still not fixed, reported twice. There is also some talk of the application been updated in the next few weeks to fix a handful of issues, so maybe we'll get lucky.

Maybe Zero should add the app code to GitHub so we can fix our own issues and send them pull requests. might speed up the development and bug fixing if they let the community take a look, but i guess that gives away too much commerical info, but a developer can dream right?

Zero reminds me of Apple; everything is proprietary.  And you're correct about an app update.  I talked with Zero customer service earlier today and an updated app is definitely on the way.

I can't think of a car or motorcycle company where everything isn't proprietary. Larger companies tend to have fewer issues and you notice it less.

I have a 2020 SR/S and get Error code 38 after every charge.  The bike runs fine, but looking at the red triangle constantly lit is not great.  I can clear it, but it returns after the next charge session.
Zero requesting the logs, but for some reason their ap won't work.

I would STRONGLY urge all SR/F and SR/S owners to not update to firmware v18. It will hard cap your range to 50 miles and incite ancillary issues.

Why would such an update exist?

That seems like a heck of a bug.

There's a bit of conflicting information in this thread.  gb and trekguy reported error codes when charging, but no performance issues.  Then MVetter comes out with a dire warning about a hard range cap.  So who's on first?

On September 26th the FW update was offered me twice, the next day once, but I declined.
Few days later I accepted the offer but the update did not go through (at least at the end the app (or dashboard?) said it was v17).

Since then I haven't been offered the update anymore.

I wonder if Zero stopped the roll-out of the update.

Was this a REAL reduction in range, or were you guys going by the SOC?

The only way to know for sure is to run the bike until it goes dead.

Did anybody do that with the new buggy FW?

Perhaps it was only the info that was off.

I just don't see how it can effect a battery charge. A KWH is still a KWH no mater what is displayed. Motor current draw will also be the same.  So the range should be the same as always, no matter what is displayed.

Incorrect. If the bike thinks, for whatever incorrect reason, that it's empty it will stop giving power. Dead. Completely no movement. Turn it off for 20 minutes and it will magically have 30% battery and full power. That is the problem people are seeing right now.
