Cool video! Thanks for the behind the scenes tips. I'm not sure I would be up for so much work just to create a short clip. I applaud you and your passion. Keep the videos coming...it's especially interesting to hear really good riders' (i.e. racers) thoughts on electrics in general.

Thanks man!  I'll talk about his thoughts on the bike in the next video.  To sum up though.. "too heavy and hard to ride"  :-\

It is heavy, but...

...Hard to ride?

...Hard to ride?

Yeah the weight makes it feel like you're just along for the ride, as opposed to controlling the bike.  He was fighting with it the entire time.  That could be because it's not meant for such a tight, slow speed road.. but it handles differently than other sportbikes and he almost lost the front a few times while we were shooting this.

I think he means it's hard to ride if you ride it hard.

I have ridden my Eva on the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap and thought it did very well.

It did seem like his upper-body posture was stiff... His butt and knees were right.  Did we hear a knee-down at one point in the video?

I could see that he was stiff because he didn't feel he had control.  Hmm.

At least you dropped it so he doesn't have to feel so bad now ^-^

Hey Sam - your videos are both entertaining and informative - nice editing too - we enjoy them immensely - keep them coming...

Controlling the inertia is key to handling and the Energica requires quite a bit more throttle input to achieve this in zig-zag cornering situations based on my brief but deliberate test w/  Eva 107.

Can you comment on what regen settings were used during the various runs shown in the video?

Thanks, PWM!  I set it to Level 2 so it was closer to the engine braking feel he was used to on his Triumph.  I probably should have turned it up though because the brakes didn't seem like they were strong enough on the downhill.

It would be interesting to know how the Moto-E bikes are setup for racing - I suspect much more aggressive regen setting on the basis they "steer w/ the throttle" in order to deal with the dynamics of huffing a heavy battery into and out of corners...

The traction controller (Rinehart PM150 series) is certainly state-of-the-art in terms of torque application and one of the compelling reasons why I switched from DIY to commercial.

If your racer friend were given time to acclimate to electric propulsion and corrected the regen settings needed, I would bet the handling impression would change to "Gorilla w/ ballerina slippers" as I have found w/ my initial test ride - not perfect but impressive.

Anyway, looking forward to more Energica video content - keep up the good effort to educate your audience.  We particularly appreciate the unbiased reporting - thank you for that.

PWM, thank YOU!  I'd love to get him on the Energica at a race track.  These tight, slow speed roads with a lot of elevation are a struggle.  Trying to ride it like any other bike won't work, you're right.  I'm excited to see how different it feels at higher speeds  ;D

Yeah, I would like some racers to really dive into how different regen can change how a bike functions.  Regen can be stronger than engine braking!  And it could be controllable.  That would be so cool if we had that function.
