New Firmware updates for my 2018 S
« on: June 27, 2020, 04:10:14 AM »

Noticed it when I pulled into the garage just before I was going to shut down the app.  Have it downloading and installing now.  According to:
https://www.zeromotorcycles.com/owner-resources/firmware/

It is bug fixes to improve storage longevity in select conditions (whatever that means).

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll have to see if it works on my bike when I get a chance.

I just installed the update(s) and it went very quickly. Instead of the usual 30 minutes or longer, this time it only took 10 minutes. Of course, after the update was installed, the contactor clicked off and the dash stopped flashing, the app said that an error had occurred and to close the app, cycle the ignition key and try again. When I did that the app said that there were no firmware updates available, so I assume that the download was successful, in spite of what the app said. Nothing new with that response.   ::)

The last two times everything worked fine for me.  No errors, and everything completed successfully.  Frankly, I was surprised because I remember the first few times I experienced EXACTLY what you described.

I went out riding yesterday after the latest firmware update. Strangely, the SOC had gone up from 69% to 70% after the 15-minute everything-on update. Also, the trip meter had been reset to "0" and the estimated range was showing 170 miles, with 70% SOC!  :o I bet that doesn't last.   ::)

Yeah, I've noticed every time I do a firmware update everything seems to get reset.  It quickly readjusts itself though.  And that reminds me... I need to make sure my custom settings didn't change.  I didn't feel as though I was getting as much "regen deceleration" post-update.  Last time I had to change it from 100% to 95% and back again to reset it properly.

My custom settings didn't change, but my seat-of-the-pants tells me that the eco mode regen doesn't seem to be doing much lately.  ???

I did an update on my bike as well, but after the MBB and BMS updates, the seemed like it froze (without a success or failure message). The app then kind of became unusable until i had to kill the app and open it again.

This is not officially confirmed, but it seems my bike was the reason behind this update.
This firmware was pushed to fix a problem i got with the BMS after winter storage (and use of LTSM)
Even though i lost several weeks of really good driving weather as a result, i'm glad they took this as serious as they did and i hope this means others will avvoid the issue because it was not fun to experience.
Fortunately i got extremely lucky as the bug appeared when the bike was in my garage at home.
Even so i could have saved a lot of waiting time if it was possible for Zero to pull the logs at the level they want to (not through the phone app) without having to wait on a service center as that cost me ~4 weeks waiting time alone..
So, if anyone from Zero reads this; Please consider some of us to have enough technical competence to be of value to shorten waiting time when pulling logs is the first part that needs to be done.
I would gladly spend money buying a CAN port cable and connect it to a computer you could've remoted into to do this, if it meant it would speed up the process several days.

I completely agree. I would add that many of us are also more informed about the characteristics of our Zeros and their problems than some official dealers, especially thanks to this forum. It would be nice to create a sort of collaboration between Zero and the users in order to speed up the updating procedures, the detection of bugs or other. It would benefit both Zero and the users themselves.

A simple thing, for example, would be to make the app say that the update was successful, rather than make us remain in doubt with some fear that something has gone wrong.

This time the update to me was more troubled. Yesterday I tried 2 times without success, while today it was successful, but the app as usual did not notify me of the success of the update.
I had to:
1) close it
2) restart it
3) then I was still notified of an update, I did update to it finally appeared that the firmware was the latest available.

My pulsations obviously skyrocketed at different times ...

When I updated my 2018 FXS the past weekend, the app did wrote "firmware update completed" at the end of the upgrade procedure, I didn't had to restart the app.
The only thing you should check is that the kill switch is engaged, otherwise the test at the end of the firmware upgrade will fail and you will have to restart the app.

Interesting.  I don't think I've ever seen that documented anywhere and it isn't listed as one of the things that must be in place before the upload would start.  I've never had the kill switch set and the last two updates I did completed successfully without any drama.  Maybe just leaving it on the sidestand accomplishes the same thing as the kill switch?

I have never even tried switching the kill switch off. I don't even know if it works.  :-[  But I have never had any problem with any firmware update, other than the message at the end saying that it failed. Turning the ignition and the app off and then back on, I also get the new firmware available message, but when I click on it, I am then informed that no new firmware is available for my bike.  ??? But this happens all the time so I now expect it and the messages no longer bother me. If that is the only bug my Zero has, I can live with it.  ;)

I just picked up a new firmware update for my 2018 S. It is BMS version 38. It installed fairly quickly without much drama, other than the usual notice at the end after the contactor switch clicked off and the instrument display stopped flashing, that said the the update failed and to try again. But it didn't fail and the update installed correctly.  :)

I just noticed that this new BMS update isn't listed on Zero's update website yet - as usual.  So I have no idea what this update does or is supposed to do. ::)
