FX/FXS rack kit?
« on: April 21, 2020, 09:30:20 PM »

I want to buy the back rack for my 2020 FXS.  I do not want the GIVI top box, at least not yet.  I see that AF1 Racing sells them together.
https://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=101428

Is that the only way to get it?  Part# ZM10-08278-1  ?  Can you buy the rack separately?

Also, from this YT video I see it mounted in a hole that does not exist on my FXS.  Assuming this isn't a custom thing (seeing how Zero sell this), WTF?  Do the official instructions have you drill a hole or modify the bike?

Every image I could find of the rack shows it going through those holes, and on the higher res ones it does look a bit DIY. Looks like they could have easily made the plates extend upwards instead of back, so the tubes come out above the plastics next to the seat.

Yeah that pic does look a bit DIY.  Oh well, it won't stop be from buying it.  I'm not the handiest person in the world, so forgive the obvious question to some, but what tool would be best to cut that out in the nicest way?  Dremel?  Hacksaw?

You can always get some replacements if you decide to go back, pretty cheap too at $15 from AF1. The neatest way to do it would be with a hole saw and then a saw or Dremel to extend that hole to the edge of the panel.

Got it.  That sounds easy enough.  Ordered just the rack from here: https://www.cyclemaxusa.com/product/5247/

Edit: I just received an email from CycleMax.  They asked me what year was my FXS.  Apparently they ship the modified panels, with your correct year/color, as part of the kit.  Wow...nice!

yes, the new versions of the FX rack kit with no top box come with bodywork   10-08024 is the old part #

new part # 10-08020-xx  with xx being the two digit color code.   You can search our store for 10-08020 and see all the options on body colors.   black, white, red, slate, dune are the choices.

Hi AF1 Racing.  I apologize that I already ordered it from your competitor, but their rack is listed without the GIVI case, which you did not.  I see now that it's there, but there is no description or picture.

no worries, next time

we're tuning up our ads....we need to reference the old # since Zero still does (we just told them about that error too).

we had the old part # turned off, it had the nice picture, and was in the proper categories.

If anyone doesn't see something, please email or call.  We've been pushing for Zero to release updated price files to dealers so we can bulk load/import items to the store.

The new SR/S parts are available, but most are not yet online at our store due to this.  Email us, we can add them individually.   We email Zero several times a day, and they are always very fast to answer.  They drop ship now too, and we're placing orders almost everyday with them.  Seeing some minor parts delays with the virus, but they are working as fast  as they can.

Is there a case that fits on this rack that isn't quite as big as the 34 liter GIVI case?  That size is more than I need.

really any top box should fit, if it comes with its own base plate (all the removable ones use a plate).  Bolt that top box plate to the rack and you are set for any top box.

what we wrote...
Zero designed this rack to help you install and use all kinds of rear luggage, but Givi Monokey series top boxes were the intended brand.

The following Givi Monokey cases can be used with this rack, please note that the Monokey plate is required and sold separately:
•TRK33NA Trekker, Silver
•TRK33B Trekker, Black
•E30N
•E370N

So I received the kit today.  It comes with some hardware but the same bolts that attach the seat, frame & panels now also go through the rack, so it's a tight fit to make sure they all line up.  Looks nice though.  The cut outs for the supports are nicer than pic higher in this thread.

I don't mind getting rid of the blue FXS sticker.  Now I just need to figure out how to remove the 5-year yellow sticker nicely.

Man, I hate that nut-and-bolt solution for mounting that rack. I mean, once in-place it’s great! But installing it and removing it is really clumsy.

Congrats on the rack tho! It makes the bike so much more useful!

Don't forget, the rack is also convenient for helmet lock and bungee storage. Very functional. :)
