How much storage space can you expect to find under the seat? Any pictures?

The motor controller is under the seat, along with major cabling and fuse block. The controller is larger on SR/DSR models than the other models.

Behind the controller, there's enough room for a small toolkit, but not much more, and not safe for liquids.

I do not know what the rules are about posting in old topics but I recently did something different to get my seat on and off without tools:





I'm thinking what to do if someone "unauthorized" would unscrew them. Any ideas?

I wouldn't take the risk, you can't be sure that they haven't tampered with something under the seat. If I really needed to remove the seat often while out riding I'd just keep an appropriately sized allen key in the tank, it wouldn't take much longer to get to and remove the seat, you can get the bolts nice and tight when replacing them, and it would require the key to remove them.

Some of us don't have a tank to store tools in.

The ease of bolt replacement is not in question for those without the top rack or side racks. When you have racks, you can't just put in any M8x55 bolt and have it work - the head needs to clear the tube.

Anyway, the SRF introduced a keyed quick release and that is the preferred normal form for motorcycle seat releases. The S+DS tail subframe is just a design issue that's tricky to work around.
