Wet belts make the noise of a water buffalo, try riding in the rain, you will have this noise constantly.

Perfectly normal.

Yes, when I got the bike from the dealer the first day, there was a heavy rain and I had this noise that day and the day after. I was very worried about it, and what did I do to try to repair it??? I washed the bike again xD because I thought it was debris on the belt, so the noise was still there for 2 more days.

Then the sunny days came, and noise dissapeared! I love the sun :D

What I'd like to know is why my BMWs never made this noise with their belts when they got wet...

Cas :)

Because BMW's belts cost 4 times as much as your Zero's belt.    ::)  And anyway, you can't hear them making any noise while their engine is running and your earplugs are in.  ;)

Have you ever checked the belt tension?

Mine does the same.  BMW tends to use heavier belts which are less affected by water... But also have more rolling resistance altogether.  Probably less exposed and on a smaller sprocket, too.

The sound eats a little into your torque and range, too, but is otherwise harmless.

Blimey, how much exactly does a Zero belt cost?

The BMW ones were £200 or so and last 20,000 miles.

In the US, BMWNA is (or was) pricing their F800GT belt for around $450 USD and the dealers are asking another $200, or so, for installation.  However, now that the GT is out of production, belt prices are expected to fall in half and will likely be able to be obtained from Continental at a much lower cost now that BMW has removed their restriction preventing the manufacturer from selling the belt directly to private customers.

The replacement belt that I bought for my 2012 S only cost $80.  The replacement belt that I purchased for my 2018 S was $120.  So about the same price as a name-brand motorcycle O-ring chain.

This is why I ditched BMW after 15 years... got sick of being rinsed for servicing and parts. And that stupid myth about BMWs not depreciating (top tip - it's bs)

Mine does the same. Also drove a slingshot once that was covered in morning dew, man that belt was loud!
