App not working for 17 Eva
« on: August 20, 2019, 12:46:02 PM »

Demoni,

Thanks for providing app guidance on thread ‘Charging problem’.
Maybe a short video would be more helpful.

As I don’t wish to highjack the ‘Charging problem’ thread, I think it’s best to start a new thread.

For my 17 Eva, The pairing is not successful.
The android phone does show EnergicaBT, but it’s asking for a passcode.
Passcode ‘0000' and ‘1234' doesn’t work.

Observations on your directions:
[1] Not selecting  ‘Use US alternative provider does work.
[2] Settings / reset - when selecting, ‘reset’ remains blue. I tried momentary pushing the button and also holding down the button for about 5 seconds. It never changes to green.
[3] ‘ID turn all 0's or flash to 0's briefly.’ - I never saw this.
[4] ‘Connect button’ - no success yet. Likely because of ‘no’ pairing.

Thoughts - I think the app would be nice to have but if I am never successful, I’ll survive. Not having a working app hasn’t stopped the bike from working yet. I could bring it to Redwood City on a day / time of your choosing (no earlier than this Thursday). I’m always up for a ride to a new destination.

I am here also, in case Demoni would prefer to continue here. I too am having the same problem again, but I was able to use the app for a while.

At least I was able to accomplish the main thing I wanted to try in the short time it worked, which was to lower the Level Two charge current from the App.  I gave up trying to get it to connect again, and I am NOT doing anything differently from the one time it did work.

It seems to be something that I can  live fine without anyway. At least I  turned the charge current all the way up to max before I lost connection (or this App not working  could be a serious issue).

@DonTom, are you using an Android phone as well? I’m using an iPhone and pairing works fine. I’m wondering if it’s an issue with Bluetooth versions.

On my Triumph Trophy, my Sena headsets that use Bluetooth 4.x work fine but my Sena headsets that use Bluetooth 3.x drop audio so frequently that I’ve given up trying to use them with it. Those same Bluetooth 3.x headsets work fine with my iPhone (as do the 4.x headsets).

Before I bought my Energica I was using an Android (v7.x I think) phone with my Trophy and I had so many Bluetooth issues I went back to an iPhone.

That’s why I’m wondering if it’s a Bluetooth version issue on either the bike or phone or both.

Yes, it's Android. A version 4Glte Samsung Galaxy J1. Model SM-J1000VPP, Android Version 5.1.1., Hardware version J100V.03.

I too wondered if it were a phone issue, as I have had such (with a different Android phone-- not this one) on my Zeros.

But if that's the case, I am surprised it would work perfectly just one time for several minutes until I turned both the bike and the phone off many minutes later and then when both were turned back on, it didn't work at all. Not even when I tried to start over by trying to re-pair, etc.

I discovered the problem. Something I thought was a possibility, but I could not prove it until I left Reno.

My house is on the very top of a hill in Reno (great view of the lit up casinos at night and a view of Mt. Rose during the day), What comes with that is a lot of radio interference. And the Bluetooth band is crowded with all type of strong signals around 2.45 Ghz.

Anyway, here in Auburn I am more in  a valley. More trees and surrounding hills than anything else. Not a great place for receiving freqs around 2.4 Ghz that are not local.

Anyway, here my same Bluetooth phone works perfectly every time.  It works each and every time with no problems at all. Even if I unpair, it pairs back up instantly. Totally the opposite from when I am in Reno.

So if others are having such problems, try a different location, such as far from any other transmitters, or underground in a garage or something like that. At least far from where it does not pair.

What made me think this could be a problem is how by Bluetooth on my Triumph Trophy often cuts out in my driveway, but not ever when I get out of Reno.

Anyway, if anybody knows where on the bike the Bluetooth Transmitter is located. I could probably get it to work even in Reno by getting as close as possible to it with my SmartPhone.

But at least now I can make it work perhaps almost anywhere other than near my Reno home.

Awesome! Glad you found the issue and that it was external to both the bike and your phone.

I discovered that the bike's Bluetooth module is right below the phony gas tank cover, on top of the motor controller. However, I could not even get that location to work with my cell when I tried in Reno. Makes me wonder if the interfering signal is something in my own garage there. It sure  must be a very  powerful interfering signal or else it's very close to me.

It still works fine every time I try it here in Auburn. In Reno, I could only get it to work for  couple of minutes. Here in Auburn, I cannot make it NOT work. Works perfectly every time I check it. And I made no changes other than the location.

I should have known, because my TTSE Bluetooth works so poorly in front of my Reno house. When it does work, I cannot get more than  few feet from the bike. But when I am outside of Reno, I can still hear the Bluetooth many yards away from the bike. I then can walk away from the bike by quite a distance (farther than across the road, etc) and it still works, unlike at my Reno house. I knew that had to be an interference problem but I did not expect it to not work on my SS9 being just a few inches from the Bluetooth module. I take it that the Bluetooth module on the SS9 is very low power, perhaps a lot lower  than the TTSE. But usually not a problem, my Reno location is the real problem.

The app worked fine yesterday in Auburn. Also  on I-80. Again, I cannot get it to work in my garage right next to the bike, here in Reno. At least now it is confirmed that it is some type of strong radio interference.

Not much I can do about that, other than not use the app here in Reno.

Charging rate question (17 Eva)

How do I change the charge rate without the Android app?
The bike is stuck on a rate of 6 amps for 1kw.
This rate is painfully slow. It’s the only home option I have at present.
The provided 102 vac, 1kw charger, I see the output spec listed as 16 amps.

Another odd new problem - my android phone no longer displays my bike.
Before it would ask for a passcode - ‘0000' and ‘1234' never worked.
I’m completely confused now.

I found this on the Energica USA site at the bottom:
‘Download MY ENERGICA reference guide’ which goes here.
https://www.energicamotorusa.com/myenergica-app/
Even with those directions, I cannot connect nor with Demoni’s directions on thread - Charging problem (reply 8, Aug 20, 2019).

Any suggestions ???

Double check in your owner's manual but for my EsseEsse9 you adjust the charging current while the bike is plugged in and charging. From the screen that shows the large battery and SOC percentage (the bike has to be switched on), there's also the current charging rate and the SET level. You push the Mode switch left or right to change the charge current.

BigPoppa - Thanks for your post. I adjusted it up to 15 amps.
