What's odd....keeping the SOC at 100% is not 100% of the battery capacity size. so it is never really at 100% SOC.  so how could this effect the battery life?

Yes the battery has about 10% buffer. But thats at 0 and at 100, so even when out 100% SOC are 95% for the battery, its still near 100 and not ideal for the battery. My Lenovor notebook has an Option to only charge it to 80%, similar to teslas. I want that for my Zero!!

Personally, I am not concerned about battery life.  I have yet to see any hint of battery degradation in any of the Zeros that I have owned.  But then I tend to buy a new and improved Zero long before that might happen. 

Zero said that the battery on my S + PT would last 455,000 miles, which would take me about 40 years to reach - and at my age of 75 that is not likely to happen. 

Besides, how many of us are going to keep our old Zero around to see how long its battery pack will last, when a new model with twice the power, range and charging speed arrives on the market sometime in the relatively near future?   ;)

That's exactly how I feel about it. Even with some misuse of my batteries, they are likely to outlive me. I just turned 70.

But I have also wondered as batteries get cheaper and better as time passes, if we can replace our batteries with such.

The SR/F makes it easy to charge to a target.  I have mine set to 90%.
That fits my commute requirements.

It also has a scheduled charge that I have not played with yet.

Ideally, I would like to be able to plug it in when I get home, have the charger bring the bike up to some storage level (60%?) and stop there.  Then pick a time to start charging to a target SoC and time.  That way, it would choose when to start charging to get the bike to my 90% target an hour before I leave for work.
Also, it would be nice to have this program easily select-able.
We have different ride modes.  I want different charge modes.
I can choose my "home-overnight" program when I come home from work.
I can choose "On the road 90" when I stop in for lunch at a place that has a charge station.
I can choose "100%" if I want full capacity.

That's a really good idea yes.

It could be a part of the mobile app.
A charge tab where you choose profiles.
As long as the bike has a onboard clock of fairly good precision, this should be possible to program.

It really only takes all of 30 seconds to swap over charge target as it currently stands. Could it be more convenient? Yes. Will they likely focus much effort in potential charge profiles? Probably not, but I'm not sure what Zero sees in the way of customer wants.

Thinking back to the energica’s charging behavior above 85% observation, trying to  compare energica’s charging behavior with Zero: Adding to the confusion:
 85% of what?
Of true full battery capacity, or the other, smaller 100% that is the maximum charge allowed. A bit of double speak in this.
Energica’s 85% might be Zero’s 90. Or something different

Yes of course. What I meant was because 100% soc is less than true 100%, and each manufacturer has a different range as a percentage of true battery range, energica’s 85 % is actually something less, maybe 75 who knows. And zero’s 85might be 70 or otherwise quite different.

Sure, but I would go by whatever each says is 100% SOC indicated and go from there.  I don't see why we have to re-decide what was already decided by each, even if different between them.
