Changing the W3W parking light bulb
« on: December 27, 2019, 04:29:58 PM »

Hi,

Is it necessary to remove the complete headlight assembly to change the small W3W bulb?
I can turn/wiggle the boot of the little bulb with the headlight assembly still attached but I cannot seem to loosen it so I can change the bulb.

Do I just pull the grey rubber boot of the bulb until it pops out or is another manipulation needed?

It's an interference fit so some tugging/twisting is required.
I can't remember if I had to remove the entire headlight assembly or not.
I'm guessing that's not nessecary.

So I got it done.

Interference/rubbery fit indeed, but reeaaally tight. not really possible to do without removing headlight assembly.

The running light? Yeah, that's about the right advice+description.

I took a few minutes to write this up for the unofficial manual. Thanks!

One of the challenges writing the unofficial service manual is that it's very common that owners have various ways to refer to things that aren't "technically correct" either per the OEM or per industry. So I do a lot of search term stuffing that links to the appropriate article as best I can.

This is one reason why Zero's terminology both sneaks into the document and also doesn't overwhelm it. I have a whole section on "Battery" even though that's technically confusing, just because how the hell would anyone know to call something a Power Pack.

But it's a challenge, and I try to respect every variation on a name that I can think of.

Why do we even have a running light, when the headlight is on all the time?

Archaic rule?  The Ducatis do it with an LED ring around the headlight.  The Hondas have side lights.  I have no idea.  To make sure you know it's on when the headlamp is out?

Zero is not the only manufacturer to have used this https://spieglerusa.com/lights-indicators/headlights-by-lsl/urban-headlight-kits.html headlight.

Perhaps others utilized it as a parking lamp?
My 03 BMW uses a small wattage lamp integrated into the headlight assembly for useage as a parking lamp.

Me? I'm looking for a suitable LED replacement for this bulb in Selective Yellow.
I've already replaced the main bulb with a 6000k LED & wanting bit of contrast.
