Passengers on the Esse esse 9..
« on: March 01, 2019, 11:33:52 PM »

What is the maximum allowable passsenger/ cargo weight on the SS9?

I know i have bottomed out the rear spring on my Zero SR with my wife as a passenger, and as i am not getting thinner, at some point (unlikely this year) i will start looking for a bigger bike. I know the Zero SRF will be plenty, but it doesn't have comparable fast charging.

The SRF does seem much closer to the SS9 than earlier zero models, but how does actually the specs compare? (Any thoughts on quality of components?).

I have four Energica brochures, including one that is 50 pages long. However, I was unable to locate the information that you are concerned about in their technical specifications.  You should try Enregica's website and if that doesn't work, give the distributor a call.

Thanks Richard, I've tried to look through the webpage too (a few times), so i guess i will have to contact a distributor at some point. I am guessing that it should be better with passengers than my SR, since it is quite much heavier in itself.. At the moment i'm mostly dreaming of making he change though.

It occurs to me that information, the gross vehicle weight, is likely imprinted on the head-stock of all of their motorcycles. So perhaps someone who owns an Esse 9 will check their bike and provide you with the maximum vehicle weight.  You know the weight of the bike (something like 600 pounds and subtracting the GVW from the weight of the bike will give you its maximum carrying capacity.  (Although that never stopped Gold Wing owners from exceeding the maximum weight of their motorcycles.   ;)  )

GVWR of the EsseEsse9 is 1009 lbs

If you and your passenger combined weight is less than 388 lbs you will be fine.

Please make sure you adjust your front and rear suspension accordingly.

Sorry for the necro-bump but if you haven’t gotten your EsseEsse9 yet I recommend getting the Öhlins rear shock at a minimum if you plan on carrying a passenger. I’m 250# and I have the stock Bitubo rebound maxed out. I doubt the Bitubo will suffice with a passenger.

Thanks BigPoppa, I still in the wannabe-category. I will have to save up for a while to get there (need a bigger apartment first... ). Currently im on a Zero SR, and we are just below the limit to max out the weight there. I have experienced maxing out that suspension a couple of times with passenger, but not in a dangerous way. Most of the time i ride relatively soft, especially with a passenger.
