Portable CCS Testers needed
« on: June 12, 2019, 07:41:35 AM »

Looking for testers on our portable CCS system. We will be performing first tests next week and are looking for testers in North America right now.

This will charge most cars around 10kw, and we expect to see about 6-7 kw for Energica right now.

Beta test group price is $3000 and delivery time is about 1 week.

I assume this requires a vehicle with a CCS port on it, right?

OK guys, so my first couple weeks of CCS testing was a total success! We even brought it to Refuel and were testing there on all of the race bikes.

Everything performed great, so good in fact that Energica purchased our prototype unit and will be using it at some future track days and events! Woot!!

With this success, and our testing unit now gone, I would like to open up testing to select individuals in the USA only at this point. Once we are satisfied with the US testing, if everything goes as planned, we will begin EU testing.

If anyone would is interested in getting a unit to test, we will offer the units at a discount, but we will require feedback.

The stations we will need testing on are :

6kw (20-30A to battery), 10kw (30-35A to battery), 20kw(65A to battery), and if anyone is crazy enough or has the power to .... I will make a 24kw (80A to battery) and a 100A to battery which Energica wont be able to use yet, but your car will.

We are interested in testers not only with Energicas, but also cars, we are willing to have you guys do the tests at home or at a business. If any US dealers would like to be a part of this, we are more than willing to accommodate as well.

Please send me or Morgan a message to learn more about the cost and requirements of the testing program.

Forgive me, screen name and all, what does this product do?  Is it a power pack to charge your EV when there isn't a charging station around?

I saw a little B class Mercedes Benz that has a Tesla drive train but the knock on it was slow level 2 charging.  Do you have anything that can boost it up to CCS speeds?

Fair question! This is essentially a portable offboard charging station. Think of it this way. The primary difference between level 2 and level 3 charging is where the chargers are located. If they're on your vehicle, it's level 2. If they're not attached to your vehicle, it's level 3. Level 2 stuff integrates with your vehicle directly into the controller or other means. Level 3 uses a Chademo or CCS to deliver power to the vehicle.

Because this doesn't use the onboard charger on the Energica it is not limited to 3kW. If you've got sufficient power on your breaker panel at home you could potentially be doing a full 20 minute DC fast charge. That station is probably a little more than people want to spend, so you could get something smaller and easier, like a 6kW DC station. There's a lot of flexibility.

So you give us a box that has various potential adapters on one end to plug into whatever wall (110, 240, NEMA***) or charging (level 2, 3, ChaDeMo, CCS) outlet we're going to plug it into and coming out of the other side of the box is a combo plug that fits the inlet on our bikes that we use for CCS charging?  And this works because the DC charging port on our bike isn't limited by onboard charging hardware?

Yes, that's the gist of it. The latest firmware for Energica allows up to 24kW of charging. This is exceptionally useful for track days or people who just don't want to have to wait 3.5 hours at home for the onboard level 2 to run its course.

Subscribed. Although I’m only 110 at home (my 220 is in an interior laundry room) I’m looking to install a level 2 charger when I buy out my solar lease in the next year or two.

Hopefully these will be in production by then and I can plan a home charging solution to take advantage of this.

Exciting stuff!

Ok I see so also like for the Livewire with it's level 1 and 3 only option, you could install a Nima 14-50 outlet at your house and charge it through your CCS bike plug.  Giving them 6kw (or maybe more) home charging without an onboard AC charger, is that correct?

That link is not what I am building.

It is less power, more expensive, and physically bigger.

We should be able to show some test progress soon.

In the meantime, I am uploading photos and progress here : https://www.electric.motorcycles/forum/charging/small-portable-ccs-chargers
