I awaiting the underwriters to come back with a rate quote to see how much it would set me back.

Cost of insurance is yet another consideration.

The 2013 F700GS costs me < $300 for full coverage with high liability limits. The Zero DSR would be $1100.

I would suggest shopping around for insurance.  I only have the FXS, but the cost is under $100 for full coverage.  I don't think insurers have figured out where to place electrics in the risk spectrum, so there's a lot of variability.
Where do you live ? I'm in the metro NYC (northern NJ) region which has very high auto insurance rates

DC Metro area (Maryland)   The Zero was cheaper to insure than any other bike I've had.  I thought it was a mistake, but it's going on three years for me.

I'm a big fan of air cooling.
Water cools an engine 24.5 better than air. That's the bottom line for the cooling.

However, perhaps around 50% of vehicle problems are something related to the cooling system.

Well today was fun, Markel, who I have used for ages, insuring all my BMW and both Harley Davidson motorcycles informed me they do not insure any motorcycle from Zero. I did not ask for clarification. All the information I could provide, VIN as well for the one my dealer has, and more, went to their underwriters and they came back with no.

I saw that Progressive will insure Zero but it may be moot pending reviews and final delivery dates

So far it seems all the major players in insurance will insure zeros, Allstate, progressive, state farm, Geico.  Rates are all over the board so shopping around may be required. Most don't have SR/F listed yet so you have to call in person and have VIN #.  It is still taking the carriers time to catch up on electric bills.  Most all purchase price and how many cc is it.
