BIKE WON'T CHARGE MESSAGE"AC GROUND NOT DETECTED"
« on: August 23, 2020, 06:48:27 PM »

WENT TO RIDE MY ALTA SM TODAY AND THE BATTERY HAD NOT CHARGED SINCE LAST RIDE EVEN THOUGH IT WAS PLUGGED IN AFTER LAST RIDE AND YES I DID WAIT FOR THE LIGHTNING BOLT TO APPEAR ON THE SCREEN BEFORE TURNING THE KEY OFF.  I'VE OWNED THE BIKE A FEW YEARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT UNTIL TODAY. THE MESSAGE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN SAID" AC GROUND NOT DETECTED" I TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT CORDS ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OUTLETS AND TRIED TURNING KEY AND STOP SWITCH ON AND OFF EACH TIME BUT STILL GET THE SAME MESSAGE. NO ERROR CODE JUST THIS MESSAGE. ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE HELPFUL . I LOVE THIS BIKE AND HOPE THAT SOMEONE COMES UP WITH REPLACEMENT BATTERIES, I WOULD HATE TO HAVE TO PARK IT FOR GOOD.

Hi B Frank, welcome aboard.
Just a little FYI I don't think many of the EMF members ended up with Altas so you may be better off listing your issue to the Alta owners forum link above this thread.

I hate they went out of business they seemed like really fun tough off road bikes.

What little I know about them though is their battery is made up of 18650 cells like they use in Teslas.
Good luck.

Did you try using an ohmmeter between the bikes's frame and the AC input ground connection on the AC cord?  Sounds like such a simple problem by the error message.

But I wonder how it detects the AC ground. Perhaps the problem is really there. Are any schematics available?
