Putty into a 2010 S

Hey all,

Anyone ever manage to gain access to the 2010 MBB? There isn't an OBD2 port on the bike, just 4 wires labeled "COMMS". I've traced them to the MBB and have identified 3 of the 4 connections. Ground, 3.3V, one connects to U1 (the main chip, voltage sits at ~3.3V), and the fourth is unknown (voltage sits at 0). I'm pretty sure I've tried tracing the fourth cable to every component on the MBB like 10 times. I don't get any output assuming the U1 cable is the MBB TX. It also doesn't fluctuate when I scope it. Any ideas?

So I managed to get into the BMS! 9600/8-N-1, no flow control, enable the ‘Implicit CR in every LF’ option. Still working on the MBB. Photos are too big to attach...

Well, I managed to get in to the MBB console. Still no idea what COMMS does... On J1 headers, Pin 10 is ground, Pin9 is the MBB TX (RX for USB device), pin 7 is MBB RX (TX for USB device). Same settings as BMS.

Thanks for keeping us updated. Hopefully some benefit accrues to other owners. I’m filing your results for reference myself. Maybe some day I’ll have the capacity to add it to the unofficial manual without adding to the current bloat (gotta carve out pages per year or generation).

@BrianTRice Yeah, the combination of having to disassemble to gain access and that there are so few 2010 models out there probably means it won't be missed from the unofficial manual.
