Teslatap in EU (Belgium)
« on: January 18, 2020, 03:36:25 AM »

Hi, does anybody know if this works on the standard 2019 chargetank:

http://www.umc-j1772.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=50

Also, are there EU based points of sale where I can find something like this?

Don't the Euro charge tanks use the type 2 Mennekes connector? That Tesla adapter turns it into a type 1 J1772 connector like they use in America, so you'd need to add a separate adaptor onto it (or remove the type 1 and wire up your own type 2).

May I ask why you'd even want one? Tesla chargers are less common than universal ones and a lot of places that do have them also have the universal ones.

Eu chargetanks still have the J connector. You do get a cable from mennekes to J plug.

There are a lot of Tesla destination chargers at hotels, i thought it could be handy to have an adaptor.

Yeah, here in California it seems like there's more Tesla destination chargers at hotels/motels than J-plugs.

There is no need for a TeslaTap in Europe since the destination chargers also have Mennekes plugs (thanks to EU regulations :) ). Usually there are 2 plugs and one is for all EVs with Type 2.

Oh, never seen one in the flesh, is it a cable or a socket? As the cable could pose a problem...

They have fixed cables, so you might need a Type2-Type1 adapter after all...

Since I own a Tesla, I use a Tesla-Tap for home charging on my Zeros and my Energica, both here and Reno.

I wish they would put an indicator  light or something on the Tesla Tap. The instructions say wait 30 seconds with power on the input before connecting up to a J-1772.  Mine (two of them) often will NOT activate for several minutes and the time is inconsistent. Sometimes will work in one minute, other times takes longer than five minutes.  Do others here have the same problem with their Tesla Taps?

This doesn't have too much to do with the original thread. Maybe it is better to start a new one for the issues you have to increase visibility?

Not so much as deviating from the original thread as this thread demonstrating how people in different countries and with different models have different connectors on their bikes.
For instance when I hear
" EU bikes have J connectors"
I'm thinking, hang on, my SR/F does not have a J connector (type 1), it has a Mennakes (type 2).

I understood that all EU SR/f's had these, J connectors being reserved for the USA??

Is there a simple overview of the zero model/connectors/onboard charger version ?

I was getting the SR/F mixed up with the charge tank, I knew for one of them Zero actually bothered to switch out the connector for Mennekes for the European market.
