Riding with kids

Hello,

Does anyone has modified the read foot peg to allow kids to ride on the back? I am looking for some idea because my kid doesn't reach the footpeg yet.
I was thinking to buy a rack from happy trail and attach some footpeg on it...
Maybe someone found a better cheaper solution.

How old/tall?  My daughter has been on the back of my SR since she was 8 and could reach the pegs in the stock configuration even though she is on the shorter side. (Also in San Diego...)

As a side note, I regularly hear CHP dispatches for people calling in when folks see riders with very young passengers...  so be prepared...

I've taken my daughter on short, low speed trips since she was 7. I used to ride right in front of a police station and never got a sideways glace from any of the officers. I think the Zero is a great bike to take a kid on, since you can more easily maintain a continuous conversation with them. I've read, but not experienced, one of the more significant dangers of younger kids riding on motos is for them to fall asleep due to steady noise and vibration.

I fully agree with this. When I take my boy there are 2 mandatory conditions for him : full equipment + continous speaking (bought intercom for that).
For the moment the daughter is banned from riding with me : she is still too young not to sleep during ride (+weight of helmet still too heavy for her in case of accident).

On my Moto Guzzi California 1100 my girlfriend was also sleeping:  so, too young or too old is a problem  ;D :o

On topic:
My kids where and are >8 years old before I let them join me.

...  continous speaking (bought intercom for that).... ???  not on your Zero right? I can talk without and hear the other easy, even at >90km/h

Obviously check the laws in your jurisdiction. Some have a age/height restriction, some only require the child can reach the passenger pegs. Apparently there are also helmet issues -- it's hard to find them in most local shops.
As for the falling asleep problem, there are special belts intended to help with that (haven't used this one or others) -- also check on legality.

Not that one, but I've used a belt before.  The only reason I use it is because it makes my wife feel like I care about our kids safety.  I'm sure it's certainly up for debate, but from what I've read, those are more likely to do harm than good in the event of a crash.
