Technical: belt, spare belt, remove rear

Today I added a spare belt.
So when the current snaps, I can replace it myself on the spot.

This thread begs the question:
If you are riding under control on pavement and occasional gravel, how likely is a drive belt failure?

About 30.000km (18,000mi?) maybe double that if you're lucky and well-aligned.

My 2013 DS about 28,000 miles still looks new.  Very little rain good tension and light throttle.

My 2013DS wich I commute on 150km a day in any weather all year.
90% pavement 10% forrest road (clay/sand/holes/water).
Because the replacement is already placed 'on standby' I noticed I drive with less fear of breaking it.
Now 45700km on belt doing full trottle every traffic light and speed limits (max 130km/h 'cruising' to work) at highway.
But for as far as I know try smooth riding on the belt with bumps and holes.
Tho 100% regen engine and brake.

But... a 2013 DS has less torque, so even full power doesn't stress the belt as much as a 2019 DSR 😉

Today about half the belt teeth sheared off my belt today at about 25,000, but I made it home.  I jam medium hard, but I do take care of the belt tension with the gauge.

25K, that's quite reasonable. I used to get 18K out of an RK chain. And it's nice to know you're not necessarily stranded if the belt starts to go. I may replace mine preemptively since I've been somewhat hard on it (IMO), but currently it's only got 7K. Such low maintenance -- gotta love it!

That's nice to know. Its been a while but over 20K was good for a chain on the R6 sport bike I had back in the day.

I just wanted a high score.  My bike is garage kept and even it was kept in a garage at work for a couple of years, so it did not get as much UV rays as a bike that is outside all the time.

I felt it go and I looked in the rear view to check if it was left on the ground behind me.  It felt like the teeth were breaking off and getting jamed in-between the rest of the belt and the sprocket.  Fun.
