Dual Sport tyres on an SR ?
« on: January 30, 2018, 02:43:29 AM »

I'm wondering if some of you guys ever installed Dual Sport tyres on your S or SR?

I.'m planning a 2600km trip this summer and will need to cross a about 900km of gravel.

Any good recommandations?

Thanks

I bought a set of  shinko 244 dual sport tires from Fort nine.ca , I would refrain from pushing them in corners but they do great on gravel and rough roads, the price was right as a test pair

On my F650GS I have had Anakee 3's which are pretty good on gravel and very decent on (wet) asphalt. When my DS needs new rubber, these will go on.

The OEM DSR tires won't fit the rims, or are too big or the fenders?

S(R) and DS(R) have different size rims.

Yes I see:

SR:

Front: 110/70-17    3,00 x 17

Rear: 140/70-17   3,50 x 17

DSR:

Front:  100/90-19 57H  2,50 x 19

Rear: 130/80-17 65H  3,50 x 17

But is the SR actual suspension and fork angle with DUAL SPORT TYRES will still be good for 400km of gravel ?   any experience?

I have the 4.6"-17 rear and the 3.0"-17 front , I have not had any problems with the performance on gravel, my cottage road is 13km of loose 3/4 stone/sand and these tires all but eliminate the "riding on marbles" feel, I still won't push past 120km/hr in corners but they haven't given me indication that I shouldn't, I mostly ride for range at the cottage, I paid less than$100 delivered for the tires and as soon as I find a tire I really want I will probably swap them out for a better set, PS they're good in snow as well (at least I haven't dumped it taking it to it's winter hibernation shed anyway :o)
