California's governor wants 5 million EVs by 2030
« on: January 28, 2018, 08:10:30 AM »

Governor Brown says he wants to see 5 million electric vehicles on the state's highways by 2030.  (Not a peep about electric motorcycles, though.)  ::) His plan is for the state to spend 2.5 billion dollars to improve EV charging and H2 station infrastructure and to continue state rebates for the purchase of electric vehicles for the next 9 years.  Part of the funds would come from the state's "cap and trade" program, licensing fees and other random sources, such as the general fund, I assume.

All he has to do now is to convince the auto makers to design and produce large electric pickup trucks and for customers to buy them.  (I am really looking forward to seeing an all electric Winnebago, cruising down Highway 1 while towing a Bolt, Tesla Model 3, or Leaf.   ;)  )

Well, God bless Moonbeam! More EV charging stations is a great thing for those of us with charging tanks.
Let's face it, motorcyclists are a minority, but this is still a good thing for the state, for humanity (moreso than the planet or environment, which would get along just fine after we convenience ourselves out of existence), and for us Ebikes.
I'm just glad we can still laneshare (or filter up to the front at stoplights) legally in this beautiful state of ours.

Just don't filter past a Chevy Bolt being driven by an AI, with the human asleep at the wheel.   ::)

Can't be any dangerouser than our current texting drivers and the hapless, frustrated motorists stuck behind them. I'm completely serious.
I've watched the evolution of auto traffic pretty closely since the advent of the cellphone. Believe it or not, it used to be worse: before the cellphones, people were focused on how frustrating and idiotic it was to be stuck in traffic and it made them combative, confrontational, and more like to squeeze in on a passing motorcyclist. Now that 1/3 to 1/5 of all motorists are too busy texting, there are plenty of opportunities to pass & change lanes--it's actually more relaxed and less hostile.
But of course the downside is the chaos introduced by that one driver who's texting with their phone in front of their face as their pickup lurches halfway into your lane.
I trust robots much, much more than the oblivious and the willfully homicidal.
