Hi, new here and am looking into converting a ajs yxr 125 trails bike for road use,

Was looking at golden motors bldc kits but from reading on here they seem to not be the most popular or favourable, so I was hoping I could have some advice on a straight forward kit based around 10-15kw maybe 60 to 96 v, that's mid mount, for less than €2k all in hopefully, thats all minus battery, also advice wanted on battery sources that are reputable and trustworthy if something goes wrong

Have you any experience with a goldenmotor hpm10kw  motor? Kelly KLS7275D controller? This is combo I think I will go with, intended as a road going bike not off road as it looks, also any experience with wiring for lights and stuff would be grateful, starting from a bare rolling frame, no wiring, only what's on the handlebars, I know I probably will end up changing throttle to a plain Jane ethrottle with no switches for simplicity and cleanliness

I'm willing to go with simpler solution, but not sure how this will perform :

I'm also not clear about which battery I should use and wonder if this kind would suit:

Mate it's no simpler to me using that kit, and it simply don't pack the punch I would need, it's made with something like a go cart or mini moto In mind going off the sprocket supplied

My aim is about 10-15kw continuous, 60mph(ish) top speed, and maybe up to 40 miles range at 3/4 throttle, what's your Intended aims? Think about it and what size chain or whatever you plan to run to get power to the wheels

Hmm, I have roughly the same goals, maybe a bit lower. Range could be 20 to 30 and top speed at 80Km/h / 50MPH
I plan to run a chain directly from the motor to the existing (or a replacement) wheel gear.
I have no idea about which number of teeth & ratio I have to go for but plan to adjust later.
My main goal is to have a working, good looking electric base, perf will be tuned afterwards.

Well biggest suggestion I can give for sourcing a motor, look at motor shaft first, anything that's marked for t85 chain is basically aimed at mini moto size bike or go cart, and will have a tiny shaft, not suited to larger 4**, 5**( * means any other number) sized chains that motorised bikes or motorbikes use, they need something 1/2 inch or larger keyed shaft

I don't know how easy it would be to find or if it would fit within your budget but a wrecked 3.6kW/h Zero FX/S (or parts from one) would be a pretty good fit for what you're after. I think they're something like 20kW, would easily do 60mph, and would probably have enough range.

@TheRan, thanks but it'll be out of budget I guess, I want to keep budget low for a first try of something that'll be more a toy than anything else

Good luck finding a wrecked electric motorbike in Ireland anyway cheap, a used zero was put up for sale in good condition for 21000 euro and it was 2 years old, had to be imported as literally nowhere sells them in ireland, uk is closest dealer in London I think

Just realised your original post said the budget was minus the battery cost. A Zero motor can be had for around the €1k mark on AF1Racing.com, the smaller Sevcon controllers are around another €1k. Of course with the other little bits required (plus shipping from America) it's going to end up being a little over budget but I don't know what other parts would be needed to check by how much. If you could find either of those used then you could almost definitely do it under budget, or maybe substitute a cheaper controller.

I kind of want to stay away from salvaged parts, would rather something new so I have a guarantee incase something outside my skill go wrong and I can exchange for replacement, also would live something that comes as a pre configured setup so I don't need to worry about that, that I can just adjust amps and throttle sensitivity
