My First Zero Road Trip

Started in Roanoke, VA after work on a Friday. Basically followed alongside the Appalachian Trail up to the White Mountains (rode up Mt Washington). Then went straight up to North Hatley, Quebec and stayed the night. Turned around and came back down approximately the same route except went through West Virginia to get back home (Blacksburg, VA). Great experience.

Stats
Bike: 2015 Zero DS 12.5 with 2 Elcon 2500s
Total mileage: ~2,500
Number of days: 13
States / provinces visited: VA, MD, WV, PA, NY, MA, VT, NH, QC
Number of successful J1772 charges: 31
Number of NEMA-14-50 charges: 1
Number of 110 Volt charges (motels at night): 8
Number of attempted charges that failed due to charging station incompatible with Zero: 4
Number of attempted charges that failed due to charger in-use or ICEd: 0

How was the power drop climbing Mount Washington?  Sounds like a great trip.

I forgot to note the battery percentage before the climb up. My guess is I lost about 12% but that is a total guess.

I was using 2 Elcon PFC2500s plus the onboard charger. As for charging stations, it was a wide variety - Clipper Creek, Eaton, ChargePoint, Schneider Evgo, SemmaConnect, AeroVironment, and Leviton.

Charging stations I failed to charge at were a Siemens in Plainfield, NH, the Eatons they had at the Albany airport, and the Voltec chargers at Chevrolet Dealerships in WV.

On my roadtrip I had problem with Chevy dearer voltec too. They aren't powerful enough. I won't even consider a chevy dealer with a voltec anymore. Also that Seiman's in Plainfield, was that at the country store?  I've often though about making that a stop, what was wrong with it?

Yes, the Siemens in Plainfield was at the country store. It wouldn't start charging at all. I downloaded the PDF owner's manual while I was there and skimmed it and looked like I was doing the right things. Made sure it wasn't set for a delayed charge, which is something it supports. Gave up and went to Team Nissan in Lebanon.

Yeah, that would have been cool to meet the battery genius and see your 2017 Zero.

I learned afterwards that my sister from San Francisco was visiting Quebec City with her family while I was in Quebec province. Had I known that I probably would have made time for heading up there to see them. Last time I was there was 14 or 15 years ago. Beautiful city.

Great job, congratulations! It sounds like a great trip but also a journey with some adventure.

The Chevy dealership for tech charging station probably would have worked if you had only used one Elcon and you're on board charger. Those only supply 3.3 kW.
