Bay area people- lunch Saturday with Benswing Rich
« on: July 15, 2016, 11:51:37 AM »

Electric motorcyclists in the San Francisco Bay Area or nearby are invited to join Benswing Rich, Brian T. Rice and myself as we ride to Alice's Restaurant for lunch/brunch this Saturday, July 16. Meet at 275 Cambridge Garage in Palo Alto. Those requiring charge up should arrive early enough to charge up before we leave, kickstands up at 10 AM. Don't count on charging at Alice's. Benswing is doing an electric motorcycle tour across the nation.

I plan to be at Alice's around 10:30.  Hope to see you then.  I'll point out all of the electrical outlets around the restaurant.  :)

I meant to say, meet at the lot by Pieology, closer to El Camino.  So I'll plan to park my yellow and red at 275 Cambridge Ave with a sign directing people to 400 Cambridge Ave (I put down the wrong address initially) (organizing, for me, is a process of iterative refinement).

There is a NEMA 14-50 at Alices now. I installed it myself this past January on the side of the gas station building by the walkway to the bathrooms.  It can sustain 12,000 watts.  It's on a 60 amp breaker (most are on a 50 amp breaker and can only sustain 10,000 watts) Good news for those with a DigiNow supercharger!!  We charged 4 DSR's with 4 delta Q's and my bike at the same time.

Terry I saw yall's vid at Zero HQ, awesome things going on.  I have to say I knew you were an iron butt and all and had some electric knowledge but I didn't know you were EE level.  Like a field general leading from the front lines, pretty cool.

I thought maybe Charger might want to style up.

That was a blast! Great to meet you Ben, Richard, Nate (and I'm so sorry I didn't catch the other names), great to see you again, Charger, Aaron, Brian, Terry!  Let's make make this a regular monthly thing, albeit without Ben, who's heading South in a couple of days, will be on Harlan's regular ride on a couple of days.  Don't forget to upload those photos, Terry!

The photos that I took at the gathering at Alice's yesterday were all too large to be posted on this forum, but I managed to cut one down to just about the maximum size. Hopefully, Terry will post better photos eventually.

In other news, one of the owners of the restaurant told me this morning that the Energica guys dropped by last week and were asking if they could set up some charging stations at the restaurant.  I gather that he told them that they could do whatever they wanted as long as it didn't cost him any money and he didn't have to pay for maintenance and power for the stations.

He also mentioned that he had been contacted by two EV commercial power companies about installing charging stations. It could get to be a busy area for EV charging.  Kind of makes me wonder if Tesla will show up.  :o There certainly are plenty of Tesla owners that frequent the restaurant.  However my observation is that their parking lot barely has enough parking space for their IC vehicle customers, much less reserving spots for EV charging and this might end up being a practical problem for all involved.

In other news: Pacific, Graft and Extortion is building a hydrogen fueling station across the street. I assume that it is being built to fuel their own vehicles, because I doubt any private hydrogen vehicle owner (if there are any) would drive into the Santa Cruz Mountains to refill their gas bags.  I figure that this is going to be another waste of taxpayer funds that will do nothing but create another government boondoggle monument at that location to be seen for years to come.  ::)

Photos- Thanks!  Can you get a link to a site with the full size photos?  Google drive, dropbox, that sort of thing?  You can post it here, or PM it to me.

Chargers- hooray!  Thanks for the details.

PG&E hydrogen- wow!  Is there a natural gas line nearby that's underutilized?  (Hydrogen from PG&E is still fossil fuel, right?)
