2016 SR front axle w/17mm socket torque
« on: December 13, 2016, 03:09:43 AM »

Samir C. Mohammed at ZERO got back to me quickly with the following update. On 2016 and probably bikes with the Showa forks with axles w/17mm socket on the end and the 6mm socket head pinch bolts, 40ft/lb for the axle and 16ft/lb on the pinch bolts.
Thanks Samir.

I'm putting together a reference of fastener specifications:

http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Fastener_Specifications

At first this will just have anything mentioned in the manual*(1), and measurements from actual bikes (i.e. what shape and size fastener).

Are you free to share the correspondence; is that permitted to be republished?

*1: There's a few errors in the manuals and we will need to do a sanity check on the information.

Hmmmm...I guess Zero needs to update their manuals because the manuals for 2014-2017 bikes say 19lb-ft for the front axel and 9lb-ft for the front pinch bolts.

Even weirder, the 2014 models use Fast Ace forks, which I bet use different torque values than the Showa forks on later models. Perhaps it took Zero a while to update their owner's manuals to reflect the requirements of the Showa suspension? ???

Probably a simple oversight. Noticed today that the FX/FXS owners manual has the 40ft/lb but the pinch bolts are 9.5 ft/lb. The FX has 41mm Showa forks with a couple inches more travel. The 16ft/lb torque is more in line for the 8mm pinch bolts that the '16 SR has. 9.5ft/lb for 6mm bolts.
