This coming Saturday, electric motorcyclers' monthly at Alice's
« on: October 12, 2016, 06:56:35 AM »

This coming Saturday,

Meet at 11 at Alice's Restaurant, or ride up from Palo Alto Baking Co or Zero HQ at 10.

F'bookers join https://www.facebook.com/groups/1593227270969926/

(This is the Alice's Restaurant that's on the Peninsula / Santa Cruz Mountains ridge, between San Francisco Bay and the Pacific ocean.)

First time, it was all Zero people.  All but one who had owned a Zero before their current one.

Second time, we had Energica show up too.

This will be fun.

has anyone heard about if we can charge at Alices again?  It's sort of silly to go eat somewhere we can't charge while eating.  I can make it there and back but it would be more reassuring to charge while there to be able to take a detour on the way home if needed.  Also if all the Zero's continue to show up, there really isn't any incentive for Alice's to want to put charging in for us.

You still can't use the 240V outlet on the side of the gas station.  :( But they will let you charge from any 120V outlets that you can find.  There is one on the wall behind the gas station (which will require a long extension cord to access) and another located just behind the side yard fence next to the realty office.

They really need to understand the potential for even more "destination" business from EV owners if they make recharging possible and easy.

To help a local destination restaurant understand how easy it would be, I purchased a 14-50 outlet from my local Home Depot (http://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-50-Amp-Temporary-RV-Power-Outlet-U054P/100193650), gave it to them as a gift, and explained that all they needed to do was get it installed. Obviously, that presumes their service is adequate for the load, but I'd be willing to bet Alice's could install at least one or two with their existing service.

They may be thinking they'd have to get in bed with the devil (i.e. set up a service agreement with Blink or one of those evil outfits), so you should show them that none of that is necessary. Then, if they bite, MAKE SURE nobody ever blows their breakers!

Are the charging providers stateside still that bad? Over here you can charge cross-provider with one card and the hospitality industry is putting in chargers faster than you can count.
A simple 22KW EVSE charger is about €600 and you can set up if and how much you want to charge your customers. You can make it free to attract them or charge the standard price an make a few bucks per charge. Estimated ROI is 3 year.

I think Alice's has two issues: One is that they really don't want to put any money into the facility as long as it is working OK for them.  The other issue is that the restaurant is so popular that their infrastructure is pretty much maxed out and they don't really need to attract new customers with better services.
