Zero vs Quantya in reliability - what customers say...
« on: October 31, 2009, 01:03:54 AM »

Not sure which forum to post in so I'll start here....

The Zero and the Quantya are the two models at this point that are really worth looking at (unless KTM gets their bike out fairly soon). I'm looking at making a purchase at the beginning of 2010.

Both bikes have their pros and cons that I can see.
I have read the review by DirtBike mag as well as other write-ups.

So my question is to those that actually own one or the other....

1) How was delivery of your machine?
- How was dealer ? honest and forth right?
- Bike mess when delivered or well crated?
- On time or late?
- good communication from dealer before and after delivery?

2) WHEN a part broke....
- was it covered under warranty ?
- was there an argument from support when asked for replacement part?
- how was time to get replacement?

3) overall condition after whomping for a few months?
- plastics?
- rattles?
- loose parts? (nuts, bolts etc.)

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

For me my Zero ownership has been....

1. Delivery: I had a friend drive down and pick it up, ooops zero forgot to include my charger.

2. Every part that has broke zero has sent me in 1-2 days. I've had no problem ever asking for a part. That said I am about to attempt the biggest warranty problem to date. I have a bad cell in my pack that Ive checked my self. My plan is just to drive down one day and deal with that. I'm a real ass an will just show up unannounced. Just normal items I have had replaced. Missing zip tie cause brake line to rub, broken chain guard, broken front axal.

3. Every single allen head is a differnt size on the bike, I bitched and moaned a tool kit should be sold on the web site. I guess its never been listed as it would be $$$ with the differnt sizes one would need. Brakes pads are my #1 item I replace.

i may be partial but I have had a Zero X Extreme and now have a S. The S comes in an awesome wooden crate delivered right to your door. You pop off 1/2 dozen clips on the bottom and the whole thing lifts off, a ramp swings down, you take off 4 really nice straps and you ride off. The quality is second to none. They have notified me of the recalls and offer any help they can give.
The only gripe I have is getting bikes! They are working on it and by spring bikes will be readily available.
Mine are demo bikes so I have not thrashed them too badly. I do ride aggressive and have not had anything fail or break.

Thanks for the input.
From everything I've been reading and searching on, I'm starting to point to the Quantya as my choice.
Mainly for how it's built and it's perceived quality.

I like taking the gnarliest of goat trails as well as high speed stuff.
It's looking like the Quantya is built to suit my type of riding which is extreme trail riding.

This is what I will be doing.....

Quantya Trial - Enduro
Quantya Onboard camera - Mountain trip PART 2

Thanks again for your input.

Cheers

My impression of the Zero has been very positive. Nothing has broken except the kill switch, and the factory sent me one (to Spain) quickly. Their customer service has really been great. The build quality seems good to me, but I've never seen the Quantya. They are continually improving the product, so maybe the other guy got an early version?

I have 4 Zero X, 2 MX and 1 S and I have run all of them in some pretty gnarly terrain and have had no issues.  My S has over 1,500 miles and still no service needed.  Haven t even adjusted the chain.  All the Zero X bikes have been killer as well.  I rode the Quantya, Brammo and Electric Motorsports GPR-S and yes, they all have their own pros and cons but overall, the Zero has my vote. (obviously)

One thing to consider with Zero vs. Quantya is the battery pack, Warranty and Customer Service.  The Zero battery is modular and comes out relatively quick to replace with a fully charged one and you keep on riding.  You can also do a quick charge in 45 mins of the Zero battery pack.  The Quantya does not have a modular battery and once the charge is done so is the whole bike.  Being able to swap batteries quickly will be a big difference in competition.  However, I did see that Quantya had a modular battery at a race somewhere, not sure if that was a test or something they are going to change about their bike.

As far as I am concerned, they are all good bikes with great people behind them, the fact that you are going to buy electric is good enough.  The more people we get buying electric the more it solidifies our future in this market.

Oh, and for those in the So Cal area, I got my Zero S on the Carson Daly Show yesterday with my IR Hollywood Electrics.  Airs tonight after Jimmy Kimmel show on NBC.

Here are a few pics with the Zero X for your laughter

Here is a thread on the Quantya battery pack swap. It was a 24 hour event in Spain...
