Australia to allow parallel imports in 2018
« on: February 11, 2016, 03:24:42 PM »

"In a press release issued overnight, the Minister Fletcher stated: “The law will be changed so that, from 2018, a consumer will be able to personally import a new car or motorcycle from another country with comparable standards to Australia’s, up to once every two years, if specified conditions are met."

As you know I have been complaining of the high cost of Zero's in Australia.
This take $10,000 off the price of a Zero S or SR in Oz. :D
or maybe a new announced Voltu.

Why is there such a price differential?

Why is there such a price differential?
marketing.

For example, BMWs in Europe are ubiquitous. They are Taxis. Not only are they everywhere, but you can get base models with cloth seats. BMW is just a car brand.

BMW in the USA is an "exclusive" luxury car brand. The same car is marked up significantly, even if it doesnt have all the features "lesser" brands may have at that price. Some options are mandatory, like leather-ish seats and automatic transmissions...It cultivates an image, and then charges a premium for it.

None of that would exist if I could just order one from elsewhere in the world for 40,000 dollars less.

Thanks Dude. I assume you meant the USA in your second paragraph.

One thing I like about the convicts down under is that they don't suffer bullshit. That Weber bloke in the article is full of it!

Yup, typo.. I fixed it.

I do like the Aussie attitude. Good bunch of people down there. I missed out on a across-the-continent adventure ride through the outback years ago... and now I just have to go there to check it off my bucket list.

The 80-100 motor in my 40mph electric goped is also from there. Buying it is how I found out how out of wack their exchange rate is getting with the USD. They're getting kind of screwed.
