Are electrics the new American sportbike?

Buell used to be the face of the American sportbike untill Harley Davidson shut them down in 2009 for whatever reason. Since then, Erik Buell has had a tough time getting his company opporational again. Are the Zero SR and the Empulse really the only American made bikes that can be described as sportbikes, or at least performance motorcycles?

Does anyone consider bikes like the Indian Scout or Harley V-Rod as sportbikes, or just sporty cruisers?

(And while we're at it, are there any other American dirtbikes and supermotos, or are the FX and FXS alone in this catagory too?)

Theres Motus. Its more of a sport touring bike, but it has an amazing motor. I love it.
I just cant justify the higher cost... but its a really nice bike.

I would have mentioned the lightning but 1) they're electric, so it still proves my point, 2) I don't think they've sold more than a handfull of bikes, so I personally don't consider them in production yet, more like selling a few concept bikes.

Sounds like they're somewhere between Brammo and Zero in terms of production.

No idea, but the bike itself is amazing.
They took one of my favorite engine designs, retweaked it for motorcycle use, then built a bike around riding.
If I was still doing long distance sport touring on a regular basis, and could have any bike for it, it would be at the top of the list.
They are not vaporware, you can do demo rides. I have yet to see someone come back from one and not like the bike.
The same cannot be said for the FJR, VFR, or any of the other sport touring bikes.
