I recall seeing that in the promotional video.  I was surprised that Yamaha took that engineering route.  Talk about doing things the hard way!  That would work OK for an IC engine drive, but seems kind of unnecessary when hub motors are readily available.   ???

Well it is a way to address the unsprung weight issue. I'm not a big fan personally but I do credit them as trying.

Ah! That makes more sense, perhaps its an evolution of the WR420 prototype they were working on a few years ago.

It would be nice to hear if it is an electrical driven hydraulic unit, a small electric motor in the black housing or an electrically driven shaft to a gear set in the wheel. Either way if Yamaha builds an electric motorcycle it'll likely be closer to an R3 than that bike but as long as it's electric it would be a good thing.
