I also thought about special helmets for electric motor cycles:
I love to drive through nature nearby, hearing all sounds of surrounding, but on > 50km/h the noise of the helmet becomes too loud. Also the benefit of driving silent gives you a better notice of sounds of others and increase the safety, but there are two problems:
a) Most helmets are already reducing the sound
b) the spatial hearing is disturbed.
Once I drilled holes at the ears of my old helmet to overcome this limitations, but that increased wind noise, at some speed like a whistle. Alternative helmets with ears free are not so safe.
Noise reduction is the wrong way to go, since I want to hear more and since the noise is produced by the helmet it would be better to have a helmet with better aerodynamics -> less noise.
In the next experiment, I put some furs outside the holes like they do on microphones to reduce wind noise and it works somehow, but it looks someway funny, like ears with fur... Maybe when I have time left next summer, I will mount my in-ears microphones outside and headphone speakers inside to control this even better... or some industry sells helmets for elctric motorcycles...
