As for the power company someone should sue to force liquidation and have a new group take over.
I'm part of an electric coroprative here in GA. We have very low rates and any tiny profit it makes means we all get little $2-3 checks once a year.
PG&E beat us to the punch. Last month they filed for bankruptcy in order to avoid much of their mounting debt and liabilities. But since those liabilities are still out there, the question becomes who gets left holding the bag. Right now it looks like either the ratepayers or the general taxpayers. You gotta love publicly-owned commercial utility companies. The really know how to make a buck and keep it when the shit hits the fan.
And one other thing, a Federal judge has ruled that they are a criminal corporation for killing people in an explosion that destroyed a neighborhood near me about 8 years ago. And now we have a federal bankruptcy court and a federal criminal court fighting over the remains of the company.
