Bought another Zero
« on: October 22, 2015, 10:40:36 AM »

Another "Kind" of Zero

Cub Cadet RZT-S Zero - electric riding mower.
Serial Number "0003"

No bluetooth - but is has cruise control.
About an hour of mowing time - up to 6mph

The Service Manual details the circuitry and diagnostic steps - check out page 66!

http://service.mtdproducts.com/Training_Education/769_08008_02_rzt_s_zero.pdf

It has four 8A31DTM  deep cycle batteries and an ASI controller for each of the four 3 phase DC electric motors.

I don't know much that isn't in marketing or manuals.

Zero motorcycles should be ashamed that a electric lawn mower company can produce a top quality service manual with all info you for they users , but Zero can't!

I am sure that was a major selling point being able to service yourself or have your mechanic do it with manual.
Does inspire confidence in a product.

Maybe a selling point to Zero's customers firepower but not a selling point to their lawyer!

I think a lawn mower would be more dangerous than a motor bike, spinning blades and powered drive.

Owners are already forced to reverse engineer circuit diagrams and hack motor controller software when modifying and upgrading. Also some information about repair and service is available from OEM websites, but not from Zero.

That's a cool mower! I'm guessing you already have a plan to run lithium batteries when the lead acid die  :) , I'm of the opinion that this is one of the best ways to help the environment, seeing as small engines are some of the biggest polluters!

I mostly ran my 70's 1512 Cub on Biodiesel, 'cept in the winter for plowing.
Watching Kryten mow grass while contending with a hydraulic leak sealed the deal.

Cub is protecting themselves... the service manual PDF is protected from COPY commands.
The troubleshooting steps are awesome and the gauntlet thrown down to Zero.

Limited release with select retailers. Going to open up to all dealers soon.

It is really spooky to work on under the deck. Because "Off" and "nearly On" sound the same.
I had to take the keys out and leave them on the floor so I could see it was OFF while fiddling with the bolts when attaching the grass deflector.
Will probably hold the keys in my teeth when changing blades.
