This does of course give me something of a dilemma. I decided to buy a Honda NC750S DCT in April. Brand new.  I cannot fault the bike for everything it does. However, despite breaking my wrist test riding an SR in July, I can't stop thinking about buying one. I really enjoy twisting the throttle and getting smooth acceleration on the Honda. I just know that a Zero would be completely smooth both accelerating and decelerating. As refined as the Honda is, it can't escape from the fact that it has to change gear. The NC just doesn't have the torque and power that my old Fazer had. I have to admit I miss that. I've been putting some serious thought into a VFR 1200FD GT. It has the torque and power plus good wind protection which would help on my commute as I'm now doing 20 minutes on the M1 at 90 each way.  Expensive for a new one though and running costs will be high.

I know it's a first world problem, but I'm over privileged, middle class and bored dammit! ;-)

Yes, it is a first world problem :). I am still really enjoying my NC in spite of the mechanical clunking. It can be a little annoying when it downshifts in the middle of a turn but I've mostly gotten used to it. I actualy prefer the NC over the SR for highway riding. Its longer wheelbase and greater weight make it feel more planted and I also prefer the ergos for longer rides. And, no range anxiety. If you plan to ride a Zero at 90mph for 40 minutes i'm not sure it would make it unless you can charge it before the return trip or get a Power Tank. You are right about the smoothness. The Zero is so smooth that sometimes I don't feel like I am riding a motorcyle. The smoothness and the silence make it feel like something else, like maybe a magic carpet/hovercraft thing. It's almost other-worldly. However, lately I have been riding the NC more than the Zero. I guess I'm just an old gearhead who likes mechanicaL noises.

Thank you very much for posting that link G. Very interesting indeed! We need to start a petition on this one. 7.5m is nothing but would make a big difference. I'm very disappointed that this subsidy isn't already active. If anyone gets to start a petition before I do, please post a link here. Politicians have a lot to answer for!

Thanks also for your valuable input Michael. I've decided to get rid of my NC and get a VFR 1200 DCT instead.  The NC has turned out to be an extended test of what it would be like owning a Zero, without the plugging in.  The net result is that a naked bike doesn't have enough weather protection for my commute. The NCs/Zeros also don't have enough power for my liking. I got used to 140 bhp with my Fazer 1000 and I have to admit I miss it, especially on the motorway. So it's back to a big bike for me with lots of smiles per gallon. A decent fairing on a Zero would make me think twice but I think it will be a while before we get an affordable electric bike with plenty of bhp. Without the power you just don't get the ability to punch it over 60/70. I like having the power even if I'm not using it most of the time. It's addictive, fun and doesn't get old! [emoji4]

All that said, I'll be keeping a close eye on developments with Zero. I'm still keen on owning an electric bike one day. A sports tourer version with fast charging would be fun.

You are welcome, sad though isn't it? Take another look at that link again all you progressive thinking folks, this time at the bottom under "notes to editors".

Clear evidence money doesn't shout it screams out loud in Tory Britain, there you see Big Oil's version of the future of liquid fuel delivery which politicians have not got the integrity or wit to see the flaws in and are willing to stand behind Big Oll B.S. by posting such nonsence on a .Gov website.  Educational or re-educational Orwellian style? You decide.

Hydrogen Fool Sells IMHO! ::) A false disruptive technology to undermine EV sales with false promises of jam always tomorrow, all to maintain ICE production, oil production and profits.

Well, as we know, hydrogen is mainly derived from Oil, so the big energy companies are keen on it.

Horrible stuff.

But yes, as the Tories are already keen on killing off solar and car grants, I've written off seeing a rebate for electric motorbikes.
Won't stop me getting another one, but it is a blow.

I was going to comment on the bit about Hydrogen earlier but I was in a rush. I couldn't agree with you more G. They've already wasted millions of taxpayers money on hydrogen development. Just to make it easier to keep their tax revenues going!
