2013 Demo or 2014 New?
« on: July 15, 2015, 01:34:40 PM »

What would you choose between a Zero 2013 DS demo with 8500 km and a new 2014 spec DS?
2013 comes with windscreen, quick charger, and crash bars but has an issue with the charging cable - can currently only charge with the quick charger. This is the ex-dealer in the country and according to them it is not a major repair. The demo's warranty expires Nov 2015.
The brand new 2014 spec from the new dealer (they don't have 2015 spec here yet), obviously has no extras but it does have a 3 year warranty.
The demo is 15K cheaper.
What should I choose?
Decisions, decisions ...

15K cheaper? That's practically free right?

Is the issue with the cable of the onboard charger/connection?

Pricing is in South African Rands@R12.37/USD.
I'm not 100% sure what the issue is - I only know it cannot charge with the kettle cord at the moment and only charge by using the quick-charger.

The onboard charger is required to balance the cell voltage. If you charge exclusively with the quick charger for a few hundred miles, the bike will stop allowing you to drive it, to preserve the damaged cells. Have the onboard charger fixed and use it at least every now and then to keep the battery balanced.

If the range is sufficient and the charger can be repaired, go for it.

They'll need to fix the onboard charger...
Go for the 2014 if they won't fix the charger.

In my opinion, the price difference is barely worth it if both bikes were in the same condition.  It might depend on how much the windshield, quick charger and crash bars are worth to you.  I'd personally go for for the 14.  If the 13 is under warranty and easy to fix, have them fix it prior to the sale
