The max. battery capacity in the app is 14.1 kWh. The main battery is 12.5 and the power tank battery 2.8. That should be 15.3 in total. Is this normal?

Yes. And that 14.1 kWh capacity maps to the range of 100% to 0% on the display, so don't worry about going low because the buffer is built in.

Also: I'm envious because my 2013 Zero DS has effectively 10kWh of capacity. But I regularly get 100 miles range out of it (tucking a bit behind the commuter windscreen to reduce drag).

Those numbers are "nominal" battery capacity.  Actual useful battery capacity with a power tank is closer to 13.5kWh.

Thanks guys.
I achieve 100 miles easily. Today I did a 115 km fast (fast acceleration, many 115 km/h tracks) road trip with 35% cap. left.
My record is 205 km with 30 km range left

Ah, the nominal vs max capacity issue.

Max capacity is an odd figure used for tax and classification purposes. Every company advertises this because its the greater number. Nominal capacity is the amount of usable energy in the battery when it comes off the assembly line.

Use max capacity to compare one product to another.  Use nominal capacity to calculate range and electricity consumption. Both figures are available on Zero's website.

Precisely.
Zero do not not exactly hide the nominal power capacity of their bikes, you go to their sales brochure/web site and its right there under the max capacity:

RANGE           ZF9.4           ZF12.5   ZF12.5 +POWER TANK
Max capacity   9.4 kWh   12.5 kWh   15.3 kWh
Nominal capacity   8.3 kWh   11.0 kWh   13.5 kWh

Ben,

Useable battery capacity is much less than that. On my 2014 SR with Power Tank the useable battery capacity is just over 10 kWh. Try running your battery down to about 5% SOC or so. Multiply your miles times your Wh/mi. That is how I am getting my version of useable battery capacity.

When my 2014 S Power Tank was first installed on my bike, the Zero app was showing around 10-11 kWh (I can't recall exactly how much).  It turned out that the PT was defective and was not communicating with the bike's main computer.  After the module was replaced by Zero, the fully-charged battery pack shows 13.22 kWh.
