Summer trip report questions
« on: May 28, 2015, 09:08:51 PM »

It seems like several people are starting to take their Zeros farther afield.  That's great!

I'm planning my 4-5,000 mile summer trip around the east coast and midwest and would like to document it somehow that would engage readers/viewers. For example, I'm thinking of writing/making videos of the best/worst places to charge.  (ie - I love charging at restaurants and hate charging at Nissan Dealerships after hours.)

1)  What kinds of road-trip videos are you interested in seeing?

2)  What topics would you like to see covered in an article?

3)  Do you have ideas for making a video get a bigger audience (maybe even go viral)?

4)  Where should I definitely visit?

My rough plan is:
Start in NYC
ride to DC
ride down Skyline Drive to Blacksburg
ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville
Ride to Charleston, SC
Ride to Titusville, FL (family)
Ride to Louisiana
Ride up the Natchez Trace to Nashville
Visit friends near Columbus, OH
Back to NYC
New England Loop later in the summer

Rating or at least comparing the kinds of places to charge sounds spot on. I guess what I'd like to see written up is how to plan around charging delays, like what activity to plan or how to schedule around meals or something. I'm concerned with how much can be packed when lugging chargers around, and what activity options that leaves you.

On the ironbutt dimension, I'd like to know how your mind and body hold up. Electric motorcycles vibrate less but you don't have excellent wind and weather protection yet and boredom could be a factor. How you deal with those would be interesting.

I'm out west so the chargers are a little more sparsely allocated so far, mainly on major highways. I think my first major trip will be straight down I-5, hence the concern about boredom, but maybe it'll be easier than that by the time I'm ready to tour electric.

I ride long distances every week and rely on music or podcasts to keep me sane and alert.

Thanks for the feedback, those are interesting dimensions of the road trip to explore.  Will try to make some videos sharing the experiences from the road.
