The Dutch invest to in Zero?
« on: February 20, 2015, 06:12:59 PM »

The Netherlands and California are planning to jointly invest in the innovation of electric vehicles.
The aim is to set up an Electric Vehicle Investment Fund (EVIF).
The plan is to deposit €24 million in the EVIF. Six million will be provided by the Netherlands, the rest by the state of California and investment firms.

Not a huge surprise if this happens, Zero has fairly close links with the Netherlands, its where the HQ for their European operations is based.

Great for Zero if they can get additional funding from this.

Is there a need for this beyond cost doc? I think the sevcon actually has more features than Zero uses.

If charging happened via the controller and motor, like Vectrix & I think Mission, then they could save more weight or add batteries.

Thanks for posting, but kind of a misleading title, don't you think?  The story simply says: "The economic mission of 31 businesses and research institutes that Ms Ploumen is currently heading also visited Zero Motorcycles, a producer of electric motorcycles, as well as EVgrid, a company that synergises EVs to the power grid."

...a visit does not funding make.  :D

I visited Amsterdam several weeks ago. They have a ton of EVs on the road, including a few I had never seen in the US. Lots of Smart EDs, a mix of Opel Amperas and (oddly) Chevy Volts, Model S taxis, Nissan e-NV delivery vans. Lots of three-wheel mobility-type scooters, likely electric. Almost no motorcycles at all. Tons of gas-powered two-wheel scooters, a couple two-wheel scooters that I suspect were electric. And of course everyone was on pedal bikes, but I spotted only a few delivery bikes that were electric assist.

I used a question mark at the end of the title.

Next time you visit Amsterdam I would like to buy you some beers and talk about electric motorcycles if you need to pass some time.

kingcharles,

I wish I had reached out to you beforehand.. It was a short-notice trip to visit a friend with very little planning. Amsterdam's canals and buildings and markets are all very pretty, and I absolutely loved how biking is integrated into the city.

I'll be back soon, later this year or more likely next. I'll reach out to you and collect on that conversation.

Your use of English in the title was fine, I certainly go that it was a possibility and not a done deal from the title alone. :)

Ah, got it.  No worries, but the research I did for the InsideEVs story that's going live today really had nothing there that had anything to suggest any investment in Zero other than a simple visit.  I'll post the link when it goes live.

Here's the link - some interesting background on the Dutch woman doing the tour:
