Here in California there are no temporary plates for motorcycles or for cars so all dealerships just put their own names on paper plates and that's all you get. We do get temporary registration papers to carry with us. Since it usually takes more than a month to get the real plates I decided to make my own in the meantime. I hope it doesn't get me pulled over.
I recall one fellow that used a paper plate saying "license applied for" on his motorcycle for years without getting pulled over. Paper plates makes it tough for traffic light and Fast Track cameras, as well as parking meter maids, to give you a ticked for various highway offenses. Just be nice around cops if your bike is more than a month old and you haven't installed your plates yet.
I have a neighbor who moved to his home 15 years ago from Idaho and had never registered his Jeep in CA. He just left his old Idaho plate on the car and has yet to be stopped and ticketed.
What a great Christmas gift and I do like the decorations.
