I'm continuing to experience motor glitches on my 2012 S, and talking to Zero about options for a more permanent resolution.

I'll update this post when I have more information that is ready for release...

Hi protomech what exact is your glitch? there are so many different scenarios.

I had the effect that the bike starts to work rough and loos power (when riding ~100km/h) for some seconds and than work fine, 5 times in the last 2 month.

I have changed the encoder offset a bit 0.5° and it happened never since I did - but I didn't rod a lot so it is not 100% that this helped in my case.

My 2012 Zero S ZF9 has been perfect ever since putting on a size 6 controller.  (Before and after the latest update.)

Boom, problem solved.

Here are the problems I see:
* intermittent (< 15%) failures on startup, where the motor will oscillate back and forwards instead of moving normally. This continues across multiple power cycles. The solution is to push the bike forward and then roll on throttle while the bike is in motion.
* intermittent (maybe once per 10 miles) failures while riding, where the motor will cut out. Typically cutouts occur after a period of roughness. Rolling back on the "throttle" to the stop and then resuming almost always works.
* occasional (maybe once per 100 miles) failures while riding at a stop, where the motor will cut out completely.

@benswing: I'm not sure if the Size 6 controller handles encoder failures more gracefully, or if you're just luckier than me with your encoder potting. This is my third round of encoder failures, and the motor was replaced after the second round of encoder failures.

@kensiko: Zero asked me to wait to talk about the solution they are considering. My understanding is that they have not finalized details.

Hey Protomech -- Is Zero still working with you even though your warranty has (presumably) expired?  I have been wondering what kind of support the 2012s will get after the two year warranties are up.

I bought the bike in March of 2012, so the two year warranty has indeed expired.

I'm curious to see what they will do as well.

My 2012 S  has done the "growl" occasionally.  Maybe a total of ten times in 3K miles.

It has shut off in motion only once (on the freeway, naturally) cycled off/on no problem.

It also, once, would cycle, jerk a couple feet, then cut out.  Did it 20-30 times over 20 minutes or so, and I had actually called the old lady to bring the truck even.  I reseated the fuses in front (I've replaced the plastic "tank" with a tank bag and added a USB port underneath it, so that may have been a factor) and it worked fine after that, so probably not "glitch" but in the ballpark
