Some clue:
 
-200km highway at 58mph  and 300km city/combined !!   T E S T E D    8)

-trip done : 2200km

-Zero pack equivalent ZF15.. a little more than the new ZF14 :P   

-Total 13.4kWh usable ( equivalent to 21.3 bar on the gauge, visible and invisible)

-Total pack internal resistance: 4 milliohm !!! ;)

-Easy  and quickly removable 2 x ZF3 pack !

-Total charge time: 1.5 to 2h  with 220V + 120V   7.6kW compact charger

- retuned suspensions for the  added 115lbs battery weight make the handling and confort really impressive !!

According to my Zero app, my ZF 11.4 with a power tank has a usable capacity of 13.34 kWh. Kind of makes me wonder how far the BMS is allowing the claimed 14.2 kWh battery pack to be discharged (6%?).

The Zero BMS is counting the Ah for the fuel gauge indication. The protection o fthe battery low voltage and overdischarge is from teh battery voltage state.

I think that  on the 2012 it is the controller itself that reduce power at 2 low voltage level. i think onew is 58V and one is 54V ( 3.0V per cell wich is the absolute low limit)

The fuel gauge can be programmed thru the MBB to indicate all the 12.5 bar ( visible and invisible bar) to represent the 120Ah availlable( on the 2012 ZF9) . this Ah number can be programed from 0 to 140Ah to scale the fuel gauge accordly to the rated capacity.
 I tought i could program it to 200Ah to get the same fuel gauge scale than before but it is limited to 140Ah, not 200Ah. But What is great is that by leaving the preset Ah number of 120 as is, the fuel gauge have the 2 last bar begining to flash very close to the half of SOC wich help to get an idea of when the battery is half discharged...

The claimed Ah is the way Zero calculate the Ah for helping to get some tax credit i think because this way is not relevent to the real energy the battery is.

The ZF11.4 is not 11.4kWh because this 11.4kWh is using a calculation that use the max voltage time the max Ah, wich is obviously the wrong way to calcylate the energy of a battery. The good way is to use the nominal voltage. That nominal voltage is the voltage at wich the battery reach half of his energy SOC.

the Farasis cells are 3.65V nom = 28 x 3.65 = 102.2V and 102.2 x 4 x 25Ahper module = 100Ah x 102.2V = 10220Wh energy.

Adding the extra powertank mean this value * (5/4) = 12 775Wh nominal energy.

the 13340Wh you get  might come from the nominal energy + regen energy that you get in average.

I have to ask Luke about that...

My understanding is that the stock (no power tank) battery doesn't really have 11.4 kWh of capacity. I've read that the marketing guys insist on using the peak battery voltage (114 V when completely topped up) and the amp-hour capacity (100 Ah) to calculate the capacity at 11.4 kWh, but there's not really that much juice in the bank. A much more realistic 100 V over the discharge cycle gives an actual capacity closer to 10 kWh. But every other EV manufacturer uses the highest, just-charged voltage to calculate the capacity, so Zero has to do it too so you can compare capacities directly. It's kind of like hard drive capacity; the first guy cheated, so now everybody else has to, too.

I can believe that, Doug.  Plus, I don't necessarily believe the Zero app, either.  It just seemed kind of a strange capacity estimate, especially as when my bike's batteries were new, the app was indicating a full charge of 13.23 kWh.   ???  I doubt regen provides much power as I have my regen set at 0% for closed throttle and 100% for braking, which I don't do a lot of.

The problem with Lithium Air batteries is that they are not available, and probably won't be available for the next 5-10 years.

If they reach market, they will be a big boost to the EV world, but thats a big if.

My rule of thumb for batteries is, if its not in production, then I'm not interested in it. I've seen so many "breakthrough advances" in batteries (and solar cells) come and go, that I refuse to get excited until it becomes available to buy.
