Edelweiss has announced the details for their Zero Power-Tank equipped motorcycle tour of the Alps that they started planning last year, according to this article by cleanrider.com.  It looks like fun:  http://cleanrider.com/ride-alps-electric-motorcycle/

I am just coming to the end of a European road trip which included driving through the Austrian alps and Dolomites. The scenery is nothing less than spectacular. I will be thinking very seriously about doing this tour in the future.

I have to say though, seeing the way our fuel economy plummeted when hitting the mountains I would be surprised if they can do 120 miles without a charge with non-EV riders aboard. It is very throttle heavy riding with steep switchback hairpins.

Well, it is only throttle-heavy going up.  On the way down you get a free ride and maybe some extra power for later use.  So maybe 50 miles up and down equals only 50 miles of hard riding, leaving another 25 miles of level riding to get from one hotel to the next.  I think it will work as they promise.  Besides they gave the entire route a try last year and it seemed to work just fine on the previous Zero versions without the power tank.

From my experience riding in the western NC mountains regen makes far more difference in charge level in the mountains than it does in stop and go traffic.  It is very interesting to ride a few miles down a hill and watch your charge level go up.

I've done two Alps tours with another company (OzAlps) and they have been fantastic.

Ride days are usually not that many miles, but they are pretty awesome miles!

This tour could be doing things like plugging in while stopped for lunch.
Also an organized tour could possibly arrange to drop off spare chared power tanks.

If you are not from around that area I'd suggest putting this on your ToDo list as it's great fun.
If you are from nearby (which is most of Europe), just do it yourself and do it now!

I just watched the promotional video on YouTube for the Edelweiss Alps Tour... and put it on my bucket list  ;-)
