Week long airport parking or storage
« on: June 28, 2014, 07:29:46 PM »

OK, so my plans fell through for where I had hoped to store my motorcycle while I fly from St. Louis to NYC for a week.

1)  Do you think it will be fine if it is parked in airport parking for a week?

2)  If not, what options should I explore?

I don't think having the bike off the charger for a week with hurt it any.  You should be good to go when you return from your trip, provided that you did not run the battery pack down too far before parking your bike.

It's not the charge I'm worried about, it's the "will it be there when I return" that I'm concerned with.

Does anyone have experience parking their motorcycle (electric or not) for a week or more in a public (airport) parking lot?

Should I be concerned or is worrying about someone stealing it while I'm gone irrational?

If you post here where your bike is parked - maybe it will be gone  ;)

Is nobody here in the forum next to the airport, who can spend your bike a one week stay?

Would be a friendly turn.

If you are concerned about theft, the best way to secure your bike in an open parking lot, would be to chain it to a steel post with a heavy chain, cover it with a bike cover or tarp and secure that cover with a long locking cable, wrapped over the top of the bike in a way so that it can not be removed without cutting the cable.  You could also use a disc lock with an integral alarm as an additional deterrent.  I think that would be enough security.  I am not sure how many motorcycle thieves go looking for motorcycles to steal in long-term airport parking lots.

Thanks guys.  I just spoke with the airport and they have airport security patrols 24/7.  Will look into getting a cover & chain.

Feeling a little better about leaving it there for a week.

Ended up finding a garage of a friendly swing dancer who rides.

Bike is safe, although I'm feeling withdrawal from not riding 200+ miles each day!

You would have felt worse during your trip if you also had to worry about the safety of your bike while parked in an airport parking lot.   ;)
