Ventilated motor + size 6 controller noise
« on: April 21, 2014, 07:48:20 AM »

Put new tires on Turbo today, it must have taken me 4 or 5 hours in total as the rear tire was being a pain. At the end of my long workout I brought Turbo up to around 60mph indicated while on the tire stand to see what noise could be heard from the upgraded bike.

Not sure if this noise is similar to the SR but it might be close less the level of noise given the ventilated motor.

Sounds the same as any Zero I've ever ridden before.  Does it not sound the same to you?

I agree it is how these bikes sound. Inside the garage it is "louder" as riding it!

My 2013 FX make a howling noise between 0-30kmh - I like this because pedestrian will hear me in a speed-reduced street (I see people turn heads to see what it is).

Haven't heard a stock zero before so no clue :)

Brandon told me the sound would be different because of the size 6 controller so I just assumed.

what's the reason for open motor?

This bike was one of EC's former race bikes (Brandon Nozaki Miller)so it was done for heat dissipation. The new SR motor has better magnets in them capable of dealing with higher temperatures.

When the bike gets streamlined with the last vetter fairing it will come in handy because less wind gets back there to cool the motor.

thought that might be the case, you still should be able to duct air to that area for cooling.
