Looking to Buy, Seattle Area
« on: March 21, 2014, 04:35:44 AM »

Long-time lurker ready to take the plunge.

Looking to buy a XU, FX, or maybe DS around the pacific northwest area.  The dealer in Seattle has a "new" 2011 XU for sale, quoted it OTD at $4995.  I wanted to see what else was around first.

My commute is only about 20 miles roundtrip, but I think I'd like a bit more range than the 2011 XU.

Welcome! I have a 2013 DS that is fully kitted out (top case, side cases, windscreen, 12V power port). I estimate you maaaaaay be able to pry it from my hands for the right price - I would only part with it to immediately upgrade to the 2014 and might take some bits with me. But I think you really need to find an FX owner or newer version that is not built up. Good luck with that, though: our dealer does not seem to be able to keep the bikes un-sold.

I talked with the dealer earlier today and they promise they'll have a whole new group of 2014's in within a week.  I'm tempted to take a long look at the FX they're getting.

I'm more interested in the FX and XU, because they are light.  Really light.

If you were to part with the DS, what price?

It would have to exceed the expected trade-in price (80% of new price?). Honestly, I'm not really presenting a realistic deal for either of us: I should just hang onto the vehicle for at least a few years to get my money out of it (already racking up gas+oil+maintenance savings and a cleaner garage).

I have a 2012 XU that I might be willing to part wit for less than the dealer is asking for the 2011. Not sure about Washington taxes, but, in Nevada, there is no sales tax on private party transactions.
I purchased it in August of 2013, and, it has 2200 miles on it. My ride to work is 20 miles, and, if I take it on city streets, I arrive with about half battery remaining. If I take the freeway
( 7 miles street, 13 miles freeway ) in eco mode ( 58 mph ) I generally arrive with 3 bars left. If I put it in sport mode for freeway, the battery starts flashing a mile or two from work. I am sure
that you will be much happier with a 2012 than a 2011. I am in Vegas, so, there would be a little bit of logistics in getting the bike to you. I work at a Resort here in Vegas, and, could cover a
night"s stay for you if you came here to pick it up. Otherwise, we could meet somewhere in the middle. It is only 221 lbs, so, would fit on a bumper ramp. If interested, feel free to contact me.
